you might have to tap the O2 sensor to the test pipe or if u plan to take it off often, u can tap it into the B pipe.


for 2000 Cali and 2001....I believe there is not O2 sensor on the cat. For 2k Fed spec...there is an O2 sensor on the B pipe.

It will trigger the CEL light if ur car is FED spec i believe. Cali spec cars should be ok. Steve from frankencar told me that all cars 2k1 and newer are all cali spec so if ur car is a 2k2 or 2k3 u should be fine.

ok i have a 97 SE, i don't know if mine is fed inspected or not. My car has been in maryland and new jersey and new york, not california so i don't think its cali inspected...does this mean it will turn on my CEL light? if this is because of O2 sensor, are there ways to work around it? I want the pipe but not if it will bring my cel light...i guess greg is the person to talk to about this...

I think all 4th Gen are Fed spec except 99 SE-L cali spec.

 

so people with 2k2 don't have to worry about the O2 sensor?

I just spoke to Greg, and he said that there should not be a problem with the CEL for 1997's and up. That is why on the sight is says "for 1997-2003". 1995-1996 coming soon."

So according to him 97's and on are all good!!!!

Sorry krismax, sounds like you should wait, but atleast you will get alot of feedback from at least 20 people to help you decide if you want one when it comes out for 95-96.

Okay people don't worry about the s/h charge on the net... and just order b/c greg will make sure that no s/h will be applied to the cc...

 

This is the response I got from Greg:

"The only maximas that use the 02 is the 95 and 96. 97-02 do not have a 02 and therefore will not have any problems with the check engine light. We have sold a few hundred of them and never had any problems from past customers."

And as someone else has stated, that's why the site says for 97 and up. Hope this puts minds at ease.

if u got the kit with the pipe then.. just do it urself... it's pretty simple process... take the cat out and replace it with this pipe... they are going to give all the studs and gasket if u get the kit.....

yes but what if its too rusted? a lot of people on here couldn't install their y-pipe because bolts were too rusted and this may be the same with this pipe...i honestly would try it myself if i wasn't worried about rust, plus its all cold now, i don't have a shop or anything, i rather pay an extra 30-50 bucks to have someone install...but if you guys know shops that would give discount to maxima owners...i'm down...

i didn't buy the kit either because any shop that installs this will have the proper gaskets and stuff, or they should...

 

well i called around for the studs and gasket for 2k2 models... and they all said it was way to new for them to have the parts out and only way to get it would be from dealers..... and dealers price was much more then $18..... but if u have older model i guess it's different story....

 

i have a 97...in fact, some time before thanksgiving i'm going to check out colonial mufflers (place i got y-pipe installed) and see if they have proper gaskets and stuff...greg hasn't sent out orders yet anyway and the way things are going, he may not send out till like monday or tuesday so it gives me time on tuesday to check them out and ask them if they have the parts along with their pricing...
