Hey guys,

I'm still hanging round here waiting for Dan to come up with the leather. I'm hoping any day now. Like I said time and again before, this issue if FAR from dead and we're working on it, but "oddball color" ebrake is right - it's not easy to find matching leather!

We'll keep you posted!

Do they have a armrest cover too? Cause my wifes armrest is cracking on her 4G. I refuse to buy a new one.

Just thought I would post this here. I was patiently waiting for DanNY to do the 5th gen GD but alas I couldn't wait any longer (I'm an impatient sort and it's only a $10 difference) . So, I went ahead and got the 4th gen shift and e-brake boots for $60. As it turns out the shift boot's lower dimensions is a perfect fit. I removed the holding wire (I don't know what else to call it) from the stock boot and fitted it to the new boot. I didn't insert it into the bottom of the boot because it's a continuous piece of wire and I don't have a wire cutter. Anyway I simply put the boot around it (see pics) and clipped it in the shifter console. 5th genners see and judge for yourselves.

DanNY hope this helps out a little

The way I did the ebrake boot

1) I removed the rubber piece surrounding the e-brake
2) put the boot on (putting the lower edges down in the opening)
3) put the rubber piece back in.

see pics.

By the way, the leather is very nice and soft, it only took a week to arrive from Poland by registered mail, and good service from redline (Maciek).

Hmmm....time for an e-brake handle....

hang tight guys...the ebrake from the 4th gen will not work for 5th gens.

the rubber piece is basically that..a rubber piece. the 4th gen has a metal wire in the base to hold the boot in.

i'll post pics of shifter boot on 5th gen 6spd tomorrow. i promise they are coming...like the 4th gen ones i want to make sure the fit is 100% before you guys get them.

Don't know how much response you got to this post. #1 looks closest, although it's still light. #'s 2 and 3 are too dark and have a funny texture. What's our status on this?

Thanks,
TOM

i'm going to start emailing them next week to see what they think.

you're basically the ONLY person that responded for the past week.

DanNY, go ahead and send me no.1. Sorry for the delay in response, I didn't know if you were still trying to get a perfect match or not. Consider me a happy customer.

Thank you,

#1 is the closest. How about make a boot with #1 and send one out to someone to get some real pics of it installed. that might help to get a better idea of the color

well here's the problem....when u buy leather you need to buy the entire hide. can't just get a piece of it ya know. it's like u go to the butcher you get a stack of steaks..not just a small chunk.

anyway if you guys want #1 then i'll check it out...but let me know guys. maybe a few more responses? just want to make sure ya know.
Thanks for your patience guys!

Ok, so when the decision is made up about color, how is this going to work? we send the old boot back and you mail the new ones? I dont think everyone is going to reply so I think it should be done on a per customer basis like set a deadline for ppl to send their old boots back and that will determine how much new leather you should buy and only serve to those that sent theirs back because I know some ppl out there that are satisfied with the old mis-matched boots.

also, When the decision is set, I rather hold out and buy the new boot rather then send my current one back

I'll take a boot in #1 and send the brown one back. If I can get my stock boot back also that would be cool.

I guess the question is... will this be a case of diminishing returns? A few months of searching have netted sample #1, which looks good but isn't perfect. Will another few months find us a perfect match? And if so, will it all be worth it in the end? We're looking at months and months for a leather shift boot! I'm personally not that ****, but some folks are.

My vote is for #1. If I don't like it, I'll experiment with some shoe polish or something and hope it works out. Worst-case is that I put my stock e-brake boot back on. Speaking of, can I get that thing back from Maciek? I'll PM him on that anyway.

Thanks Dan. Looking forward to this finally being resolved. I guess this GD ownz j00!

Ciao,
TOM

I don't know if it's the right brown or not, but i drive a 96 i30t and my interior is tan with a brownish trim. I'm looking for a shiftboot and a e-brake boot and if you wanna get rid of your brown one and it matches my car, I'd take it off your hands.
