I thought that's what you were asking! Really!

Anyhow, I'm due a shipment from Thermal Flex for the silicone reducers for the 2000-01 Maxima's. There is a 1 week delay for those kits. If you don't want to wait for it let me know and I'll submit a refund to you right away. Sorry about that!

haha, oh well ;p but about the intake, too bad i gotta wait longer ;p but it's not a big deal, no need for a refund
I do have another question tho, i went to the recent uconn meet and saw the berk intake on a 2k max, think he got it a couple months ago. wish i had a pic, but i guess there is this piece of metal, if i remember right it seemed to be twisted once, and is suppose to secure the intake (keep it from shaking) i say that because i guess he saw a pic of where it was suppose to go but doesn't reach and he can hear it rattle sometimes when he guns it, but doesn't see it as a big deal. just curious if you have an idea of what i'm talking about, wish i had a picture, or if you can post a pic of the berk on a 2k max i can point it out and repost, i donno ;p

edit: i can acctually see that metal piece in your first pic, but the pics too small to see where it connects to

Here is a pic of what it supposed to look like. Lots of people run the whole thing without the bracket. Since everything is made of 6061 aluminum it is very light. I can't really officially reccomend that you don't run the bracket, but I will tell you that many people don't use the bracket and have been doing so for 2 years and they are fine.

Berk Intake Blast!

I saw your post, thought I would tell you about my Berk Intake. I had bought a Injen off e-Bay, it was lost in shipment so I decided to spend a little less and get the Berk. I ordered it on, a Tuesday and had it on Friday. I already had a JWT Pop Charger installed, so I just ordered a Midpipe and couplers. The Pop Charger had a nice sound, but with the MidPipe installed, my Max is awesome! I cleaned the throttle body at the same time I did the install, good idea, recover some pep there too.

I took the Max out with the newly installed midpipe, and went hauling *** up the street and I though, kinda slow, oops i took off in second, dropped that bad boy into 1st and lite those tires up, from a running start, not dropping the clutch, oh yeah, I have a 5 speed!, cruise at 15 mph and just smash it to the floor, feel the spin.

So I took it out this weekend, riding along and see a white Mustang coming up beside me, I heard him before I saw him, he thought he would do the ole, drive by, so I waited until he reached my rear bumper, this was on a two lane exit ramp getting on the highway. I dropped it into 3rd and dropped the hammer, Bye, Bye. He could not catch me, I thought it must be a 6 banger. So a few miles down the road, i cruise past another Mustang this one a GT, and sure enough, he jumps to a far lane, hides beside a SUV then tries to blow by me. I was turning so I could only nail it for a few seconds, but he never caught me till I was braking for my turn.

So the Berk sounds awesome, you would swear it is Turbo Charged, hisses and whistles like crazy at 2500 - 3500 RPM. My son has the Frankencar with the K&N cone filter, I like the JWT better, has a better look, I think it is close to the same sound, figure if the JWT is good enough for Stillen, it has got to be good, Stillens looks exactly like JWT's.

One more thing, improved gas mileage. since the install, I have drove 300 miles with just under a half tank. I usually refill at just about 300 miles. Could be the clean throttle body?

I recommend the Berk, full heartedly.

yeah, this guy still had that stock weird metal piece which held a couple things where the bracket is connected, and can't connect it to the other whole in that pic right next to where it's connected, i'm still a newb when it comes to things under the hood, so i can't say why you took that metal thing off and why he didn't, maybe it's fine for those "wires" to be lose? anyway..yeah ;p

I know what bracket you are talking about. You can either leave it on, or leave it off. If you leave it on, the twisted metal bracket just goes under that part and the OEM bracket goes over it. The picture above, he just removed it for a cleaner look. The instructions don't tell you to remove it but you can if you wish.

I am interested in picking one up. The K&N's price is more attractive but am worried about the oil gunking up the MAF. I have a 2002 6sp. Bryan, is the K&N safe or would you recommend the Apexi.

Thanks!

Tim,

If the K&N filter is oiled properly then they should not be putting oil on the MAF. The problem is that MANY people over oil the filters. The Apexi filters are dry type filters, it's just one less thing to worry about. The Apexi filter is just a bit quieter than the K&N, and will flow a bit better as well. Tests have proven that the Apexi filter will filter better as well. The only draw back that I can think of with the Apexi is the price.

Either way, you can't go wrong with either setup.

Regards,
Bryan

It will be basically the same, just a few changes. I am switching over to 4 ply silicone couplers which is stonger but a bit more flexible. It will be easier to install than the previous 3 ply that I have been using. The filters will be different as well.

I am very interested in an intake with the K&N for my max. I would like the red couplers with it. I am wondering if I should wait for the Group Deal Part III. If it is the same price then I will wait for it but if not I would like to go ahead and place an order for the current one.

Coby,

Just out of curiosity, did those couplers come in yet? I atleast think that's what you said you were waiting for before you'd be able to send out my intake. Just looking forward to getting that thing in, let me know

The K&N intake prices will not go up for Part III, but the $1 shipping promo will end. Part III, you'll see a different filter option for the intakes using S&B powerstack filters. They will have the $1 shipping promo attached to them.

Bryan

I recieved my intake on saturday, which was completely undexpected knowing coby shipped it out thursday from CA to CT, thx a lot for the great shipping. I got it installed the same day at the recent milford post mall meet, had like 3 people under the hood heh. Anyway it sounds great, nice deep sound to it, i have one question though. at certain points i hear a whistling/hissing/ringing sound whatever you wanna call it hehe. not exactly sure what to make of it. isn't a constant sound, usually hear it when acceling from lower speeds. and sometimes i also here a sound similar to that after i let of the gas or when my auto tran switch's gears, almost sounds like a sqeaking sound/tiny BOV, it's weird, i figure it's the filter sucking in the last bit of air right after i let off the gas, anyway it would be nice to know exactly what those noises are and if i'm suppose to hear them. thx again coby for the great service.

That sound is just the resonance that your stock air box was muffling. The sound of the air rushing inside of the intake tract is what you are now hearing. Years back when I first got my Maxima I bought a $tillen intake. I had that sound as well. I tought that I had a air leak somewhere. I could never track it down. Eventually I just took the filter off completely and ran it "open MAF" with no filter on the end of it. The Stillen still used the stock rubber intake tube between the MAF and throttle body. Even with all that there, you can still hear that sound you are talking about.

Hope this helps, feel free to email me or post if you have any other questions.

Regards,
Bryan

Thx for the reply, that's the answer i was looking for, i kind of figured it was air being sucked inside, but wanted to make sure. someone did mension that it could be a leak, right after i got it installed, but i didn't feel any delay when pressing the gas which is what he told me to look for. and i acctually remember hearing a similar sound when i had my airbox in but was very very faint. just glad to know it's normal

I'm backordered on K&N and Apexi. I called Apexi today to see what the holdup is and they are doing inventory right now. They will not be shipping anything out all week. It's the same with all the companies right now at the end of the quarter.
