How much for a Spec Stage 2 w/Lightweight option and a Fidanza Flywheel for a 1995 Maxima, to 97219?

And if the flywheel doesn't fit, I'm sending that puppy back

Stage 2 #SN442
Torque Capacity: 395 ft/lbs.
Retail Price: $349.00
Maxima.org Price: $295 shipped

The lightened option is $70 extra.

After more research with Fidanza we have found that the FW is for the 96-01 only. They don't have one for the 95.

...Well then all of the other flywheels should be for 96-01 only as well, unless they have a different part number. But after speaking with Unorthodox, I was told that ALL 95-01 flywheels have the SAME part number.

WHAT the HELL. Stillen Charged my CC 40 DOLLARS FOR SHIPPING/HANDLING. I DIDNT AGREE TO THAT.. THATS REDICULOUS. THEY SAID IT WOULD BE 15 DOLLARS..

I'm sorry. I just want to make sure everyone also notices that ImportcarPartsP has relatively good and timely customer service, with solid shipping prices.

Stillen quoted me 12.41 for shipping of my flywheel and then charged my CC 40 dollars. I called to ask why, and he says that the 12.41 is just an "ESTIMATE" and that it will likely be more. "THEY ONLY CHARGE ME WHAT UPS CHARGES THEM" which I know is BS, because UPS ground never costs 40 dollars for a 7 pound box.

I am considering getting a new clutch, but one question. How would I know my clutch is going out or wearing thin on my 97 SE?

It'll start 'slipping' or lagging when you first engage the clutch (let the pedal out).

which ceterforce dual friction clutch will I need if I got a 98 maxima with a 99 5spd tranny? I see that one goes up to 98 and 99-01 is a different clutch.

Sorry Exedy only sells kits, no parts.

hey justin,

my spec stage 2 (kevlar) clutch is slipping on my stillen flywheel now, quartermile time went down a bit, i ain't too happy about it.

i was wondering if you can quote me a pressure plate only for the stage 3 spec clutch? i want light weight options with it, too. I saw in post 256 written as below:

---Spec stage 3 pressure plate with lightened weight option - #snc443 - $135 + $70 for lightweight option---
does this deal still hold? or has it gotten cheaper? lol.

now, since i already have the stage 2 clutch kit, i want to confirm from you that i can just buy the spec stage 3 pressure plate and still manage to combo this setup correctly. Is that right? I just want to make sure first. also, the throw bearings that come with these aftermarket clutch kits don't work. they are too big compared to the factory throw bearings. do you have one that'll work?

hit me some emails at cyu1@lsu.edu

The disk is what will probably be causing the slipping so I wouldn't just replace the pressure plate. Price is the same and it can be done.

ok, i was mistaken, too. i need the disk not the pressure plate. now can you quote me the disk only shipped?
if you can also find the friction surface for the stillen flywheel for me, that'll be perfect.

if you have both, quote me both pieces shipped. if not, i'll see how much the disk only would cost. thanks. by the way, i want the stage 3 disk from spec. i checked, the pressure plate they use is the same for all stages, since i already have the pressure plate, i can forget about buying another one.

so, i don't suppose you have the throw out bearing that'll perfectly work with our cars, do you?

Ok........I'm just about ready for a new clutch. Plus I'm planning on boosting my SE this fall. Not looking to putting down massive power but the 300hp/tq range is my goal. Now comes the clutch part, what would you guys recommend. Please note, I'll be driving the car still stock til around August/Sept. What's a good clutch that will give me the best drivability and performance and enable me to be boosted and still be up to the task?

Oh btw, I'll be needing a master and slave kit too and rear main seal. What other parts usually need replacing when doing a clutch job on a 140k mile Maxima?

Almost forgot, my car is a 1995 SE.

thanks guys.

i'm all down with SPEC. i recommend you on it, too! for your application, you want to get a stage 3 spec clutch kit. this kit is the last drivable clutch stage and holds a good 400+++ hp tq. you'll be happy with it. beyond this stage, drivability is going to be a big issue.

i'm currently running on SPEC stage 2 kevlar clutch. rumor is that this kevlar surface doesn't work well with the steel carbide friction plate in the lightened flywheels. and evidently, rumor holds out true. i have it for only 6 monthes, and it slipped. however, due to its capability, slippage is a very minor problem. it only slips when i run the tracks. i posted a thread about this problem in the weekend battles in the maxima discussions. check it out!
read the race details and you'll know it
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=396848

however, during the everyday driving, it seems fine. i am still able to pass up people and accelerate. just when it runs on WOT is when slippin is immenient.

i'm fixing to get a stage 3 clutch disk, hoping this one will hold out alright.

good luck

I'm not looking into doing 400+++ hp/tq. As I have stated already, I'm only looking to around 300 hp/tq. Perhaps a stage II will do. I also read this entire thread and majority seems to favor the Exedy most, second is ACT.

dr-max, i see your point, but check this out, i got the stage 2 package and running only a bit less than 200 hp at the wheels. my car isn't even boosted. and this stage 2 claims to hold a max capacity of 395 hp. well, it didn't hold out.

a lesson i learned from this case:
you want to buy a clutch that'll hold out much more than what you're running. our factory clutch is supposed to hold out 250 horses, but it didn't do the job when i'm running only 185. see, clutch selection is important. one discreptancy to my case is possibly the stage 2 kevlar clutch itself. i keep hearing that kevlar's don't do good in durability. this might be the main reason it slipped early.

the other clutches you are looking at are pretty popular choices. but I have heared much bad things about the exedy stage 1's. they just sucked a$$. i know you are going for stage 2 or above. so you are in the safe zone.
now, clutches from different companies have different characteristics. i like SPEC because they are light at the pedal, and my girlfriend didn't like heavy clutches. and it turned out to be a really good upgrade. there are many things you want to seek: pedal feel, engagement differences, drivability, durability, and price. I'm at no shoes to tell you about others, but I definitely recommend SPEC. I love these clutches.

So I'm assuming you have never driven Exedy or ACT? At any rate, thanks for your input. It's kinda weird how certain manufacturers would rate a clutch for a specific hp capacity and actually not deliver on it. Makes me wonder how the hell they determine these things. I plan to use the stock flywheel. Maybe the grab would be better with that.

i've driven both cars with exedy and act clutches, once each. they have much heavier pedal feels than the SPEC for sure. ACT clutch is really heavy, and engagement is extremely sharp and stompy. The engagement occurs right in the middle of the pedal release. Exedy has very factory like drivability, it has alot of "play" with the pedal and softer engagement. Both cars i've driven are of stage 1's. So i'm not sure of the stage 2's outta those.

about the flywheel, I recommed because it gives you 2 upgrades done at the cost of one job. It's your car, your homework to do. so it's really up to you.
