Do you think they would still offer the discount if you needed it shipped instead of travelling to them? What is the regular price anyway?

The modification involves the replacement of the inner springs and moving parts inside the Valve Body to make it more reliable and durable. The end result is a quicker shift, an close to no delay between shifting gears in the automatic transmission.

QUESTION: For $350 will they swap the VB for me if I go there? I'll be on Long Island this weekend.

Or would I just be picking up a new VB, have to do the swap myself, and then have to send my old one back to them?

$350 is a great deal if they'll put the modded VB back in the car for me.

Which VB are you getting?

I have an appointment for Monday morning. Thanks for letting me know about this deal. I've been wanting to do this for a long time but I didn't want to do the install myself, plus $400 was just high enough for me to shy away. Awesome to get it INSTALLED for $350. Perfect timing, too, since I'll be staying just 1/2 hour away on LI.

QUESTION 1: Which VB upgrade are you guys getting? I was planning to get the "stage two" also callled the "street performance" version. Sounds like the "racing" version might be super harsh for regular driving. Know anyone with the racing version who could comment?

QUESTION2: Maximum Tuning told me that the tranny runs COOLER with the VB upgrade. Mobiletek says the opposite. They say their VB upgrade makes the transmission run HOTTER because of the quicker shifts and thus they recommend a tranny fluid cooler to be installed. WHO's RIGHT?

Thanks in advance for any input you have!

less slippage between shifts (what the VB does) usually gives u cooler fluid..BUT if you beat on it then it'll be nice and hot again.

VB MOD=350
Tranny cooler=60
Tranny cooler install=60
Total=470

It takes about 2 hours for them to do all the work. I love it in my car. I want to get stage 3 but I doubt I really need it at this time. It's the best investment you can make to your car in my opinion. The shifts are crisp and hard and if you have a 3rd gen they are hydraulically controlled meaning the more throttle you are giving it the harder the shift is (as per Jeff). With 4th and 5th gens the shifts are computer controlled so they'll always be hard and crisp at all speeds. My friend had his Altima done and it shifts HARD and he has stage 2. Also, you lose about .1-.2 tenths of a second off your 1/4 because being that you are shifting quicker you are reaching top end quicker which would make acceleration and speed faster.

when the tranny slips...it created unwanted friction and increases the temp on the fluid. most stock trannies will have some slip in it so the gears engages smoothly.

what the VB modification will do is increase line pressure or delay line pressure so the shift kicks in faster. the lag/slip between shifts would be less than stock. the decrease in slip and shift time will yield cooler temps compared to a stock VB shift. down side to it is firmer and harder shifts...maybe that's the up side too.

yes i know it doesn't "GIVE" u cooler temps...but i was making a comparison between the two.

UPDATE: Jeff installed the stage 2 on my car on Monday morning (1995 GLE). I felt the difference immediately. When the tranny changes gears they click into place immediately.

Overall it makes the car feel more responsive. You don't wait for the gear to change - no more hesitation. It just shifts and goes. Very satisfied.

The car is definitely more enjoyable in "spirited" driving due to this increased feeling of responsiveness.

I was a little worried before getting the VB mod that normal driving would be too harsh, but my fears were quickly alleviated when I drove the car home. The shifts are definitely more abrubt when you are driving gently compared to the very sl-o-o-o-o-w and smooth OEM shifts, but nothing that interferes much with general driving comfort. They definitely seem to have the formula worked out well with the stage two kit.

Highly recommended.

Thanks Jeff! I'll definitely be returning for other mods and general repairs.

PS: I also got those 17 inchers (that you saw in the back of my car) installed, so it no longer looks like a granny mobile with the stock GLE rims! Didn't end up using your tire guy, but he was very helpful and had some good deals on the slightly higher-end tires. I went with very reasonable but less expensive tires that I found at a price that I really couldn't refuse... Tell him thanks though.

It runs HOTTER. This is from personal experience and feedback from others on the org who have VB mods. The quicker shifting is most likely causing compression of the tranny fluid. When that happens the temperature will automatically increase, fluid dynamics. Sure slippage will increase the heat as well in the tranny, but you will probably see more of a heat increase with the compression of the tranny fluid. Unless your tranny is slipping a lot.

My personal experience came from climbing a hill from Vegas back to Cali. It's a REALLY long, steep hill where your tranny is constantly shift from 2nd, to 3rd, to 4th, back to 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, etc. So it gets a beat down.

With my VB mod and tranny cooler I was running over the hill it was about 95 degrees outside. I went over the hill going about 80 MPH and found that my tranny wouldn't shift into overdrive. I stopped at the first gas station and watered down the tranny to cool it. This did the trick.

Prior to my VB mod this never happened to my tranny on the same hill in the same conditions.

So this I attribute to the VB mod running hotter.

of course it makes the fluid hotter...it's running the fluid at a higher pressure.

it runs hotter due to pressure of the fluid...not the tranny giving the extra slip between gears.

a tranny cooler is a MUST.
