What is the model/manufacturer of the camera? Are you still unsure if these are a perfect fit w/o modification? Thanks.

If the "RED" RCA cable is for power, what if we don't have an RCA connection for it and need to connect it to a direct power source? (ie. cig lighter)
I have an Alpine IVA-D300, does anybody know if it has a RCA connection for power?

Then when someone sets off the microwave sensor (kind of like the old school talking alarms ) the sensor will turn on the relay to the camera power. Now there is a video sorce and the vcr records. There is a very small current draw and the car still starts in the morning. That is how I have done it for a few people.

wariow: can you make it so when you go in reverse the camera goes on?

Yes you can relay it into the backup lights on your car so that when you backup the camera turns on. Most TV will switch when they since a sorce to that sorce...if you have a cheaper TV that does not do that or has 1 video sorce there is a way to do it with a video switch.
I'm definately going to be doing this. Once, I get my Yellow Top, Camera and Alarm all I'll need is that $150 VCR and a Power Inverter and I'll throw it in my trunk somewhere for the time being. Is it possible to hook up the relay to the microwave sensor in the alarm, as well as the Back Up Lights?

First you can cut the plug. It is a 2 wire deal that one takes 12 volts and the other ground or buy a plug that will plug in and give you the wirs coming out as pig talis.

Yes you can but you will have to use a relay. Also I can get the VCR that has the converter builtin. Let me know & I will check prices for you. (hey maybe another group deal lol )

Yeah, I would greatly appreciate that if you can. You never know, possibly! I don't see why people wouldn't want their cameras to turn on and record what goes on around their car if the sensor goes off.

Yessss, 2 more people and we're set!

nevermind, latinmax, i did wut u said didnt work, cut off the connector, there were two wires, one of them covered in red, the other exposed....i extended both wires so i had some slack to work with, i powered red, grounded other.....video plugged into the camera jack of my HU....still black with white lines.....then i reversed em, powered black grounded red, nothing at all....then i plugged the cameras video cable into a different monitor and same results....im beat....is it a defective camera? maybe i screwed it up when i just gave the red connector power? possibly fried it?

I have done it before with no problems. You have to do both the red wire and the exposed wire. If you try to hook up the red wire witout a ground it will search for a ground thru the video cable causing the camera or the moniter to go out.

sounds like you were a little careless with the power connection... You may have shorted it originally, which could have caused damage to the camera. Then when you reversed the polarity (connected 12v to the ground and ground to the 12v) you may have damaged the camera. What 12v source are you using? did you meter that source too see if it's actualy 12v +- 20% ?

i wired it to the 15A trunk release....so for my next camera, i have to just hook up ground first.....then red wire...and dont initially "experiment" by feeding power to the red mini rca plug.....i think this is something that should be made known to people buying this...i was misinformed 3 times and it costed me 70 bucks....

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. See if you can just send it back as defective...

Also, you arent concerned with current here, as these are very low current devices, you are concerned with voltage, so meter that voltage source and make sure its good. It probably is, its just an extra precaution.

Just some info that I found, on this camera to help carify:

Note: We design the camera to adapt to constantly changing voltage levels (within normal range +/- 10%) produced by vehicles' battery and alternator. However, during start up, some vehicles have very high momentary voltage which may cause overload and damage to the camera. To avoid such situation, we advice you to seek professional vehicle audio/video equipment installers.

well as far as my problem goes, im going to have to buy another it looks like, the people who sell are www.kawamall.com and the guy that ive been going back and forth through emails doesnt really sound like he understands what hes talking about, he just says make sure the polarity is correct...my advice is as soon as u get the cam, snip the red connector, expose pos and neg, ground neg, give pos power....and plug in yellow to ure video....should be done...

ManualMaxima,

The reason why i never said anything that i was backing out is because the way you responded to my first question. I was merely trying to clarify how much would the 2 cameras cost shipped to me since shipping to Hawaii is ALWAYS MORE!!!!!! And you go on and mock me by saying "Do you know how you are paying?" If you wanna keep on doing business treat your customers with respect!!!!!!!

Eric
