That would be the wrong impression, our YG5 y-pipe is included in the GD, which covers the 1999/2000 Federal emissions cars. Its exactly the same as the YG4, except for a bracket that's been added because the location moved on the car.

I'll mention that the cutoff for that bracket move has always been sort of unclear to me. The 95-98 (and probably part of 99) bracket was a seperate yoke-like piece that cradled the exhaust where the y-pipe and cat meet, hanging from two rubber hangers. If your 99 Maxima or I30 is like this, order the YG4.

Later in '99 the bracket moved forward roughly a foot and became a part of the y-pipe. It connects to the car with one rubber hanger, sort of above the flex section. If your 1999 Maxima or I30 is like this, order the YG5.

If you order a YG5 for a car that needs the YG4, that's OK, the bracket on the y-pipe just won't be used. If you order a YG4 when you need a YG5, there will be nothing to support the exhaust in that area and it will place an unnecessary offsetting strain on the flex section.

Since I'm rushing out the door, I can't stop to read how things got stirred up, but please guys, there's nothing worth squabbling about.

The customer names (real or forum IDs), model years and emissions type (though it only matters for 1999/2000 Maximas) are very useful to us, and the numbering quickly indicates the total, but the sequence of the names on the list is unimportant. Its reasonable to assume otherwise, but that's not the case.

Since one can't actually commit to a sale until the order is made, and since this isn't the sort of GD that requires a minimum # of orders or pooling money to jump start it, we'll just say "GO" when the time comes and then fill them in order received via phone, PayPal or snail-mailed money order. Picture the Oklahoma Land Rush, if you've ever seen an old film clip.

This thread is for those who favor value over cost and have already decided to buy the best.

There are a number of cheaper y-pipe brands out there that are clearly inferior in terms of performance, materials, workmanship and fitment. Those differences should be well known, they've been discussed many times on this form.

I'll limit my comments regarding the part you mention to the simple fact that although it is not comparable on any level, the most obvious difference is that its made from mild steel tubing, not stainless. If you want to believe the claims that this aluminized mild steel tubing is impervious to winter climates when the much more robust stock systems are rusting off in 3 years, be my guest. That is just one of many shortcomings that could be (and have been) pointed out, but this is not the thread for that.
