My dad just called me at my apartment, hood arrived 5 minutes ago. I'm heading out there now to check it out, take some digicam pics, and then run it over to my body shop. The timing is working out perfect, as my body shop will be finishing up the work on my front end tomorrow night and they'll just slap the hood on for me. I'll also weigh the hood on my trusty bathroom scale and let you guys know what it weighs, according to my who-knows-how-accurate bathroom scale. Amixam98, thanks for setting this up man. I appreciate it.

Cool... nothing like hacking up a new CF hood... I kinda want to do this modification before I paint it.

Neal, glad it's all working out 'on schedule' for you.

As a side note, I have a friend replacing his worn out hood struts... looks like i'll 'pick the trash' and see if they will be OK with the CF hood.

Malik said he had to adjust the hood latch...

Is that your problem? How's the quality overall? Neal appears to have some problems (though he didn't go into detail).

Maximadan, are there any blemishes on the surface of your hood. I'm wondering if my hood is an isolated incident or not...

The 1st & 2nd gen ones all have this dimple near the mid/left, near front.

Thats the only blemish thing I have.

BTW, contrary to popular belief, Albert told me they DO have clear coats.

From what I can tell, that'd be one THIN coating..

Well, that would coincide with ONE of the problems with my hood. If that is a problem with their mold they need to remedy the situation. Thats not the only problem with my hood though. I didn't pay $575 for a hood that is far less than satisfactory. Sorry for being so vague on this guys, but I want to see how Fiber Images deals with this problem before I go into great deal on it, and go bashing or praising their customer service.

Looks great... I see you don't need the washer nozzles cuz of your S/C CAI!

BTW: How many of us are 'picking up' our hoods? I forgot to ask if we are picking them up from FI or from Mike.

Well I emailed Mike and FI about 25 pictures of the damage and manufacturing defects on my hood.

There is a significant dimple that someone tried to sand down, the sanding marks are very evident and very ugly. Not to mention they didnt even come close to getting rid of the blemish, they just made a larger one. There is also a deep scratch about an inch long. These are the problems with the hood when it left the factory. This hood should have never been shipped in the first place. To top it all off, it was smashed in shipping. So no I have a maxima that has been sitting in a body shop with no hood for 5 weeks, and I now I still have no hood. Mike spoke to FI and they said they inspect every hood before they send it out. Well they forgot to inspect this one apparently because its pretty hideous. I just want a decent looking hood. Mike emailed me back and commented on my great pictures of the damage, FI hasnt gotten back to me yet to tell me how they are going to resolve the situation. The waiting continues.

Update on my predicament... I called FiberImages and they said they are making me a replacement hood and that it is going out later this week! Kudos to FiberImages on resolving this quickly and ideally, I really didn't want to have to wait 8 weeks for another hood or have to pay to have this hood repaired.

they have holes in the fiberglass frame for them but not in the hood... its pretty easy to make the holes... TilleyS99 has em done

and my hood rattled ALOT when I first got it... I adjusted the latch to stop the rattling and thats why it sticks up slightly more now

mine is the 1st gen it has a few dimples but you wont notice them unless ur in bright sunlite and look carefully

FiberImages called me today and told me they sent my replacement hood out on tuesday, so it should be here Monday probably.

The one I have right now does NOT have holes for the washer nozzles in the fiberglass frame, but it does have indentations where they would go. I've gotta repack this hood to send it back to FiberImages, so I will weigh it tomorrow (I think we've determined they weigh 13 lbs though).

Guess what? I got my carbon fiber hood today.

Anyway, the hood seem to be in great shape. I haven't take the protective plastic cover off yet though. Yes, the hood is pretty light. I'll try to weigh the hood with my dad's commercial scale. I post the info later.

Btw guys, where can I buy hood pins at? And is the install easy? Let me know. Thanks.

Woo Hooo!!! got my hood yesterday. Thats a cool feeling. I didn;t even think they had started on my yet. I show up and BAM its sitting next to my car in its packaging. It looks perfect. The only thing I noticed is that it seem kinda a dull at the front section. Like when you leave plastic on something for a long time. I'm hoping it can be buffed out. Or maybe when I paint it the clear coat will make it look shiny in that spot again.

Woo hoo !!!!! won't be putting it on until I get everything done.

My 2nd hood arrived today, put it on this afternoon. It was a *****. I had to grind on the latch portion for a good amount of time, and take my grille off and such. Fitment now that it is on is good, but not great. I am going to work on using washers to shim the back of the hood up so the front will come down a little bit. Lateral alignment (side to side) is good, but vertical alignment is about 1/8th inch off. The hood sits about 1/8th inch higher than it should in the front. I'm going to be working on that this weekend. There is a blemish in the mold, the same 2 blemishes I had in my first hood are there, but they did a much better job of sanding them down and smoothing them out. It still needs to be gone over with polishing compound though. Anyways thats that, I'll take pics tomorrow or whenever.

Where are the blemishes? i looked at my hood and couldn't see any. All I noticed was a dull spot near the front/center on the passenger side. I see little dent like where the squirters go but thats it. hmmm

Overall the hood is in very good shape. I got the same little dents(not very noticeable), seem to be for the nozzles.

The hood did have a noticeable damage/blemish. It's on the passenger side, front.

Here's a pic, sorry if it's not too clear. The damage look like cracking carbon fiber. Other than this, the hood is in good condition.
