Carbon Fiber Hood GD 4th gen!

hey everyone

well we know all the issues that we had with Fiber Images haha and no surprise they stopped making hoods for the Maxima

The company I am working with is a supplier for B15 Sentra hoods and AE86 hoods

The hood is designed for use w/o hoodpins and will be made of high grade Carbon Fiber. There will be a warranty of atleast one year of the hood against cracking, seperation, and fading- The molder may be able to provide an even more extensive warranty depending on his cost.

here is the option of an OEM styled hood or a vented hood. The vented style that we have choses is shown here
http://socalmaxima.8m.com/CFhood.htm

The estimated cost for the hood depending on the number of people is anywhere from 450 for an OEM style hood to 550 for the vented hood with about 100 dollars shipping. If you are local thenyou can pick up the hoods and if you out of state guys can get a few hoods shipped together you will save more money
The molder is in Palmdale California!

thanks!

I would be in for this gd, I maybe wouldnt mind louvers but then doesnt rain etc get inside the motor more (intake etc)...anyways what about like a $250 deposit thing and when the hoods are made etc then we pay the rest? My friend did that with the 3rd gen cf hood gd, and I like that more since I would prefer to dish out $250 now and rest later rather then all the $ right away...

I've been talking to two companies
one is DG Motorsports and the other, a supplier for CF hoods for the B15 Sentra guys

Both companies are based out of So Cal, I'll be checkin em out this week or next

DG Motorsports Pricing is initially 595, the more people we get the more the price drops
the other company will be about 500 a hood, thats what their initial estimate is if we get a few people going on this deal

Please let me know what you guys would want to see on these hoods the simpler the better, and the cheaper it will be (vents, louvers, whatever)

www.dgmotorsports.com
(the other company I'm still getting their info)

I'd be interested in this GD...let us know how many people are necessary and how low that'll put the pricing. I like the idea of a deposit, and then the remainder of the cost later. I just want to know that we're getting GOOD quality hoods!

I already have a Fiber Images hood so I'll make sure the fitment and quality is better than FI

http://briefcase.yahoo.com/cewood2
this guy has the DG Motorsports hood on his '02 SE-R

http://y42.photos.yahoo.com/sdsr20de858
This is another guy with the DG hood on his Sentra, I saw this hood in person and damn it fits alot nicer than FI!

DG Motorsports hood's are really nice hoods, good quality, have a good reputation, fit well.... but are expensive ($595)

The other company is working on hoods for the Sentras they promise quality, this and that, I do think the guy knows what he's talking about- I'm waiting for his Sentra hood to come out before I jump in with them

basically DG will get the hood faster, they have a good rep- but they are expensive
the other company should provide all the same as DG for cheaper, but you guys will have to wait a few months

I agree with the idea of the deposit, because the manufacturer can only make one hood at a time, so they need some assurance that none of us will flake out.

for the moment I'm seeing how many people are interested, if there are a good number who are seriously interested with the price being 500-595 I will buy a new stock hood and send it to either company we choose

I'm hoping we can get 10 people in the deal so we can get lower prices (50 bucks or so)

If the fitment can be made much better than the FI ones, I highly recommend the carbon fiber hood. If I could do it over again, I definitely would have not got the FI one.

Malik, see if you can hook it up for the 3rd gens. Also, if they stopped making them for Maxima's. I wonder what happened to the 10 3rd gen owners that did the group deal, the hoods should of been done right about now.

CF hood weighs 8-13 lbs from experience, on the Max it might be closer to 13, the Fiber Images hood is 13, maybe the ones we'd get would be a little bit more, i really stressed quality when I talked to them, and the FI hood is well, kinda thin hehe

stock hood is 60 lbs or so (take the hood struts off the damn thing and take it off the car! hehe)

Moe, if you want a vent of any kind, post a link on the board so I can see what exactly mean and so I can send it to the companies, Both are able to make vents this and that, the fewer designs people want, the cheaper they can do them

and Don, I am already thinking about the 3rd and 5th gen guys, if you think the market is out there and we have someone willing to donate hoods or buy new ones and send it to them then lets do it!

Where would you need the hood taken to? I would let you use my hood, meaning I would not be able to use my car, but I would err not to be greddy etc but maybe get a discount or the hood for cheap since I would not be able to use my car for that whole time. Thanks,

Mike

probably a couple hundred or atleast one hundred plus u'd get the first one

DG is kinda more stiff with their price of $595 the other guys (dont laugh) Stoopidautoparts.com seems more willing to negotiate but I want to make sure that their products are top notch before I go ahead and do anything with them they have their Sentra hood coming out in July so thats what we wait for

hey if anybody else wants a hood with vents let me konw because i think it would be worth the ex money because the batter blocks most of the air from getting to the intake and i think it will be worth it if we can get a good price on one.

just talked to the other supplier

the molder does give good warranties on his higher line products so anyone who gets in on this probably will get a free replacement if there is cracking/seperation

They are also using a new process called vacuum moldings which promises better and quicker results.
I will go see them this week probably then I will decide whether to use them or DG motorsports. DG is in Escondido CA (near San Diego) and the other guy is located in Palmdale CA

one we get the ball moving (hopefully in a week or so) I think it will take a 200-250 dollar deposit from everyone involved does that sounds resonable?
once we do that we can expect the first hoods coming out in 4-6 weeks the probably 2 every week after that.

I will talk to the molder about vents but PLEASE someone post a link so we can see what you guys are talking about

DG motorsports CF hoods are very well made. They have a better rep than fiberimages in CF hoods. Talk to the DG and see what they can do. I'm willing to put in 50% deposit for one if it's made by DG.

ill think about it. dont want another Fiberimages diaster. i wanted to get a vent also, you know which one Malik...i want the function of it not the looks. As far as Predator style, i wouldnt go for it juss cause it doesnt do much and adds extra wind resistance.

I agree, if everyone is interested in paying 595 hehe we could go for it but 595 is steep and they arent so generous with GD discounts.

the other molder is more flexible which is a good thing- I'll work with him and if that doesnt work I'll go ahead and deal with DG

I wouldn't mind going for something like that. The buddy club. If not something like the Bomex Supra hood would do too. The bomex style would be really simple and probably easier to produce. I don't know about rain getting in..etc.

I like the idea of the Bomex style vent in the CF Hood. It would look sharp!

All of you guys agree on one vent and I can get them to do it without it costing waayy too much!

the OEM hood will be focused on, if you get enough people to agree on one style of vent then it can be done too!

Vent style

Lets go with...

Buddy club style as first choice.
Bomex style as second choice
Corvett style 2" hood cowl style as third choice.
