Trunk lip spoiler..M5?

I've been researching the posibility of getting the trunk lip spoiler off an M3 or an M5 and making it work for the I30's. The spoiler measures 47 1/4" in length and 1 1/2" in width, with a setback
at the middle of the spoiler about 1 1/2" (the curvature). The one for the M3 is about an inch shorter..otherwise the same.

Now the biggest problem I see is the curvature. I couldnt measure it exactly on my 98 I30 but it seemed to be less than an inch and a half. But more than an inch. I know the spoiler is flexible and can be bent slightly to fit making it popular with Acura TL drivers as well as Audi folk but being that it's molded into a curved shape it'll only bend so far until it tweaks or warps. I'm honestly on the verge of buying the part and having some fun. At worst I loose 120 bucks, at best I have a kick *** mod.

That is a great idea dude. I would give it a shot, but what about heating it up before bending it? Like with a hair dryer or the sort. Maybe that could get it to bend and stay better. Let me know how it works out for ya.

I've often thought about it...but I don't have the money to experiment...especially with my current project

But heck, if you could get it to work..I think you'd be a hero

BTW - I assume you found the price for that spoiler on eBay...because you can find them for $120 Buy It Now and less if you're patient.

Yup..120 is what I saw on ebay. I've been talking to a guy who sells them regularly on there and I may actually do a trade for an old amp that I have which hasn't been used in years or possibly being able to return the spoiler for a refund if it doesn't fit. That'd be the only reason I'd buy it from the BMW dealership. I could always return it if there's no way it's gonna fit. I'll have a couple days off end of this week and early next week while I move to a new job so I'm planning on doing it then. I'll keep you posted

Sounds good. I visited my local infiniti dealer today to pick up a job app. Im gonna ask them about maybe ordering the part for me, or even if its possible to. Also, I may be on the inside there if i get the job, and im sure if i get on the in i can order whatever the hell i want! You guys may have a new hookup... hehe

Can anyone with a 2000+ I30/I35 please measure the length of the trunk lid? I would but I don't have a tape measure here at school, plus my car is like 1/4 mile away (not good for those random ideas about your car when you want to go stare at it for a while).

Anyways, I like the idea you had about using the M5 spoiler, seeing as how TL and A4 guys have had success adapting it as well. I need a length for the trunk lid (I assume the measurements you had Tapio were 1st gen, correct?) so I can correspond with a contact I have. It would definitely be easier then trying to import a replica made specifically for our cars.

Thanks!

John

Couldn't tell you the legnth but if you don't have a tape measure you can try this. Get a normal sheet of white paper (8.5 x 11) and use that to measure the width of the trunk. Can can easially fold the paper in half to get 4.25 or 2.13 or 1.07 inch increments. I know it's ghetto but I've used it MANY a times when I couldnt find a measuring tape.

The measurments I gave are for the spoiler itself and as far as I know are completely accurate (according to the packaging the spoiler comes in as well as the dealer).

Again, the only problem I see is the curve of the trunk lid. Though the spoilers are semi-bendable it will only bend so much before it tweaks and looses shape.

Btw, get the part from the BMW dealership. It costs more but as long as you dont destroy the spoiler you can return it if it's not gonna fit.

I checked into it. The width is too great for the M3 or M5 spoiler to work on 2000-2003 I30/I35s. MaxMojo is supposed to be getting some custom fit lip style spoilers sometime soon.
