98 I30 is this a good deal ?

Hi

I am looking at a 1998 I30 with 81K miles for $9000. It pretty clean with some minor scrapes on the bumper from parking. Do you guys think that it is a good deal. I live in the bay area and is really hard to find a decent one with low mileage for under $12K. Also is there anything special I should check for? I really want one from LSD but I can't find any good deals on a touring one. Please let me know if you guys know of any good deals in N. Cali. Thanks

Off the top of my head, I would say that is a real good deal. But in order to know for sure you need to check the book value, either private party or dealer. The car may have VSLD, not only the touring models have it. Look at the tranny code stamped on the passanger fire wall, if it ends in a "V" then it has limited slip.

That is a good deal... see if you can get them down to maybe $8,000 though... Make sure its had all its tune ups, check ups, etc... The engine should be barely broken in... 81k over 5 years... Thats like a little over 16k a year... pretty good if you ask me...

Thanks for the input guys. I will most likely get the car. But my only concern is that I just ran a carfax report on it and it shows that it was a lease vehicle when it was first registered. And between 1999 and 2001 it whacked up 70K miles. Should that be a concern ? Also the guy told me he is the 2nd owner, but on carfax it shows 3 owner records. Do you think it is ok being the 4th owner ?? I am trying to get the price down to $8800 since is missing the 2 remotes for the alarm. But it was originally listed at $9900. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

Well a lease vehicle is not really a bad thing. Many luxury cars are leased. It's not like it was a rental.
70k miles in two years in alot, maybe a salesman owned the car?
You can get remotes for less than $25 on ebay. I got my infintiti one for $20 shipped. Even if you don't get them to come down on the price it seems like it is still a good deal.

He may be the 2nd owner. The leasing company is one. The original owner bought out the lease, so he's two. And the current seller is the third.

I bought my 97 I30t in January for $9000. If that gives you any indication.
