2k2-2k3 Lack of Power or "Hesitation" TSB

I know some of you have seen the ECU update for the 2k2+ maximas regarding lack of power or hesitation. Well, a little snooping around and I found the same TSB for the I35.

There is a listing of all the TSBs for the I35 here:

http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/infin...C.asp?mscssid=

Look for the "Lack of Power"

I'll probably get it done fairly soon

Great find MetaOrbit,Thanks!!!
Was lookin' for that one myself when I read what's been goin' on over at the 5th Gen forum. Guess I didn't look hard enough.
Don't know if I will get this done just yet, waiting for lots more feedback.
I have a slight hesitation just off idle when I accelerate "aggressively", but that's more so in hot weather. This "lag" that is spoken of, I've yet to experience,I think?
The reason I say that, is after reading through the posts, I am still somewhat unclear as to what the exact feeling of "lag" really is! As far as "lack of power" as stated in the TSB, my car does not feel like there is any lack of power,it feels strong, but I have no other Infiniti/Nissan to compare it too.So once again who knows?
FEEDBACK from anyone with direct knowledge of this issue would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks,Russ

Hey Russ,

I wish I remembered what the lag was like. I noticed it when I FIRST got the car - it was really noticeable then. I guess after being told that it was normal and having driven it like this for nearly a year I've gotten used to it. I'm still going to get it done though, it should make for another interesting service day

I've got an 01' i30, and at first i noticed the lag you guys are talkin about, but then the car seemed to adapt to how i drove, and the lag has been gone ever since. Doesnt it have that driver adaptive throttle controlled ecu? Cause i have also driven other i30's (loaner cars) and they feel different than my car. Also, i can drive slow for a while in my car (ie, after i did my spring install to listen for noises/get used to the ride) and it developed the lag again. Then, as usual, it was gone in a matter of a ride or two.

It does adapt, but I think our lag is due to programming relating to the drive-by-wire system. Also, I'm pretty sure that only 2k2+ had electronic drive-by-wire...so the lag you experience is probably something different.

Hmm, could be placebo effect, but i dunno. I definately felt the difference between my car and the loaner.

Took my car to the dealer today and they looked up the TSB and found that my car applies. They had to order the MAF Sensor though so I have to come back next week to have it installed and the ECU flashed.

On another note...I got to know one of the service writers there - young guy, showed him my front lip spoiler, clear lenses, new custom trunk setup (pics soon), and he loved em. He actually has a Jetta he does a lot to - so I asked him how the dealer here felt about aftermarket parts, specifically springs (he has eibachs). He basically said they don't care, that the only time it *might* be a problem if it were something suspension related.

Also, a few weeks ago I got a mention in the Wall Street Journal for being an I35 driver in their "Me & My Car" feature. It turns out all the guys saw me mentioned in there and recognized my name...LOL..I had everyone coming up to meet me when I picked up my car!

Meta,
Hey what's up? Glad to hear you had a good experience at the dealer and your lag/hesitation problems are on their way to being fixed. Can you please tell me what month/year your "I" was built.
In addition, can you also post the Part number of the new MAF when you get it installed, as well as the part number of your old MAF.
I would appreciate it.
Thanks, Good Luck!!!
Russ

Well, I got the the ECU flashed and the MAF replaced today. It seems to be better - at least from a standing stop. Can't tell much difference while moving really. I think I'll give it a little while and see if I notice anything else. It just happened that I was driving places I'd never been this afternoon so I couldn't get on it like I wanted to. That'll change tomorrow

John, sorry to hear what happened to your car, the world is an evil place at times, unfortunately jealously rules!
When you have a minute, do you think you can answer the questions I asked. They are 3 or 4 posts up from this one.
Glad to hear the Ecu/Maf update made a positive difference, albeit a small one.
Thanks,Russ

Build date: 12/01
New MAF PN: 22680-AM600

Sorry, but I didn't know no do I have record of the Part # on the old MAF sensor.

BTW - Driving it around the past couple days, acceleration from a stop is greatly improved, not to mention it seems more willing to downshift to a lower gear when you want to accelerate while already moving (i.e. on the highway, gunning it to pass).

Thanks for your quick reply John, I appreciate your time.
My "I" was also built in 12/01, but it's strange, my car came from the factory with MAF part # 22680-AM600. That's why I was so interested in your old part number when you posted that you were going to get it replaced. Oh well, can't do much about that now.
Be safe and enjoy!!!
Thanks again,Russ
