Need to Know

I am at a local wheel shop here in Birmingham shopping for a set of 19" wheels for Baby Q45 (thats my car). In the process I ran across this wheel http://www.discounttiredirect.com/pr...rcmeg.c.xl.jpg
So after inquiring about it the guy tells me the wheel is not going to fit on the I35 but it can fit on a Maxima. WTF? I thought the I35 and Maxima were built on the same chassis. So I shop the net on Arceo Wheels and find that DTD (Discount Tire Direct) is a distributor for them. They tell me the same thing.

My question is why will this wheel not work on the I35 if the offset is compatible, the lug nuts match up, the the bolt pattern is ok, and size will clear the wheel weld on a Maxima?

Does not make any sense to me. If they fit the max they will fit your car. Could they give you a reason they wont fit???

Yea the guy said that Infiniti's are slightly slimmer than the Maximas are, This is from Ed over at Next Level Performance. WTF, if I am not mistakened aren't the I35's slightly wider than Maximas? The guy at DTD told me that I35's and Maximas have slightly different Offsets which could cause rubbing underneath the wheel well, but with an alignment (which I would need to do anyway) It should not be a problem. I guess I will have to have a one on one with Infiniti's service department to see what can be done.

I know your dealing with a I35, but my I30 has the same offset on the stock wheels as a Maxima. You can look in your owners manual and find the offset your car has, at least mine has it, then look in the 5th gen fourm to find the off set of the Maxima. I would bet $20 that they are with in a couple milimeters.

Thats the part that made me write this email to ask you guys about it. I look in the 2003 Maxima Owners manual and in my I35 manual. Theres not that big a difference. I think personally the people who sell wheels try to sale certain wheels and claim they are for luxury cars and then sale certain ones that are not.

What was the difference in offset??? My aftermarket 17's are 40mm offset and the stock is 45mm.

You'll be fine. What you have to worry about is going to a higher offset because then you may run into problems clearing the caliper. I went down 5mm and was just fine. I could even run 35mm if I wanted to.
