K&N Air Filter

I was in Pep Boys today and strolled by the air filters section when I went to get some injector cleaner and wondered if they made one for my car... Well turns out its like 33-2031 part # or something like that, and they had em in stock! Well I remember trying to find this for my malibu, and yeah no one had it and it took a month to find one. The performance was....well non-existant, but hell I never had to change the filter until the car got totalled some 2 years later. Well I decided to give it another try today and I bought one, at the cost of $45 (ouch, yeah online is cheaper, but i want it now now now or i'll forget ...im a lazy bastard). So I got home, pulled out my old filter.... and realized the bastards at the dealership didn't replace it when they did my oil change last week. (I paid them $60 for oil change and synthetic flush....no more non-synth). Ah well I guess, I was gonna put another filter in anyways... Well I put it in, started up the car, and vroom vroom. Well it seems to rev ....at lightning speed now. Not only that, it doesn't choke down so early anymore, it screams to redline very nicely, and loudly. It was raining today so no road tests other than a drive around the block, breaking traction is all too easy on wet pavement. I'm going to thoroughly break this puppy in, only I wish I had gotten it sooner, like 2 weeks ago when it was 20F outside and my car was ingesting the frigid air like I consume water after a habanero or two.... More updates as I try out this one...

The panel type filter? Glad you like it but it did not give ya more than 2-3 ponies.

It may not give you much in the power department but it is a nice addition. I have noticed 1-2 MPG better when crusing on long long distance trips and it sounds more aggressive in a good quality sounding way. While how much power it adds may be a mental thing since it sounds so good I am still happy I bought it.

I bought one for my car not a month ago and the damn thing didnt fit. I believe it was the right size and part, but I couldent close up the filter box. Did any of you run into this?

I have just givin up for now becaues Im thinking about buying the place racing CAI. Im just a little woried about the noise. Anybody have any experience with the Place racing CAI? Is it very loud under normal driving? Say if I bring it up to 3500-4000RPM in first?

Thanks

Yeah I know it doesn't give me power. I didn't get it to gain HP, more gain BACK the hp i lost with the dirty *** OEM filter they forgot to change in 2 oil changes at the dealership. That and I dont have to clean it forEVER..lol . YEah when I first got it, it didn't fit either, you have to push it down with a flathead screwdriver along the edges, and it will fit. It's a tough fit, but once you get it, you don't have to open it for ~100k miles according to their specs, tho i clean it every 30k... I think it was a great investment, at least until my warranty runs out and I put real aftermarket parts on my car. I know it doesn't void your warranty, but well my parents hold the title, not me... and until the warranty runs out, what they say goes, there's no argument to it... But a CAI, and cat-back are in order, as well as some sort of forced-induction.. By then i won't worry too much about filters...it'll all be part of the package.
