speed limiter
speed limiter
what speed is the i35 limited to? I've read before that its limited to something in the high 130s.. but i can only take my car to 120 before the RPMs drop....
also i'd like to take a second to ***** at the ****ing bose system in our cars... it ****ing skips every ****ing second! ROAR!!!

Max speed
Actually, I'm almost certain that the top speed is limited by drag, not by a rev limiter. Here's why: my '02 I35 with a rear spoiler tops out at 123mph - and it's not because the engine stops pushing, it's because the car just stops picking up speed. All the way up to 110 it's pretty linear, then it starts slowly (and then more obvious) dropping off on the speed increase.
If you do the math - according to the "red line" limit it should reach about 165 or so because there is pretty of RPM's left when it hits the wall...

By the way - if you P&M to your dealer about the CD skipping more than once they almost have to replace it. Since Infiniti sends out random satisfaction questionnaires for people that have had their vehicle serviced, none of them will risk getting anything less than a "Excellent" rating. Mine's so freaked out about the process that they (the dealership) send a letter out the day after I pick it up telling me that I might receive a survey and if I have any complaints to please resolve them immediately. One of the questions on the survey is "Did you have to return your vehicle to the dealership more than once to resolve the problem?" (my wording - not exact). According to my salesman - "Excellent" is OK, but "Good" means something wasn't perfect and the company doesn't like anything less than perfect. I had my CD start skipping at about 28K miles and mentioned it to the dealer at my 30K service. The first time they pretty much ignored me when I mentioned it, but the second time I made them write it down again (note - here's a key - make them write down your comments on the warranty worksheet) - they pulled the entire "head unit" and replaced it.

When you are going for top speed runs turn overdrive off around 100mph and you will accelerate right up to the limiter at 130 if you have H rated tires (the tire speed rating of Nissan cars is always a good clue as to whether or not you are being governor limited). I banged the limiter at least 5 times in a row at 130mph in my 2000 I30T cuz she kept wanting to go faster, so I'm sure you can exceed 130, at the least, in a I35. Be careful when you got for the run, going to court for reckless driving and paying reckless driving tickets are no fun.

i thought he meant leave it in 3rd till 130...
if i do what you say, when should i manually shift to D?
You redline 3 (when the needle reaches red, hits the rev limiter, etc.), then manually shift to D.
That way you get the most speed out of 3rd gear before going to the overdrive gear.

Hmmm, I've never had any trouble with the car upshifting like that at high speeds. I also havent had a problem passing 123 on the speedo.
I have seen about 137-138 on the speedo a few times without much problem, so whatever the correction factor for the speedo is at that speed, that's what I've hit, with more to go.
