When I installed the Frankencar kit on my I30, there was no place to plug in the air temperature sending unit from the stock air box so I left it hanging. The problem is that my check engine light has been on ever since and the people at the shop will not administer the I/M test until the light is off. Plus, it comes up with the air temp error, so I'm not sure it will pass anyway.

What are my options for getting this to pass inspection? I tossed all my stock airbox parts. Do I need to get another stock one to pass inspection once a year?

I could sure use some help with this. Do other air intake kits provide the plug for the air temp sensor?

 

Does the Frankecar kit sit inside the engine bay?

I think I have seen pictures of some true CAIs like PR, Cattman, or Injen with the air temp. sensor pluged in.

I also know a lot of people on this forum use WAIs -I think like Frankencar- and POP intakes. I would doubt that all of these peopls have problems with CELs. Maybe they have a Sim. available for this application.?

it does not matter if the intake temp sensor sets inside the intake or not. As long as it's pluged into the harness it will work. I have mine zip tied to the next to the outside of my cone filter and it causes no problems.

Either your sensor is not pluged into it's harness or it just gone bad, which would have nothing to do with having the stock air box or not.

Have you tried to clear you ECU of codes? Does the code always come back?

 

You should be able to get a rubber gromet at your local parts store. You will have to drill a hole in the pipe for it and you should have no problems.

Although mine has been outside for almost two years and i've not had one cel. Make sure that the connector is snug, also make sure when you removed it you didn't pull one of the wires loose from the harness.

 

Thanks for the info. I finally went to the Nissan Parts counter and asked for the intake air temp sensor. $27.00 and I'm good to go.
