Check engine code 0420
Check engine code 0420
I took my 2000 i30t to autozone and the codes that read were 0420. They guys said it was an oxygen sensor in the mufler or something. Anyone know about these 0420 codes and how much it will cost to fix?
I think its wierd, 420 code, i wonder why my car cant breath, lol...

Apparently it's pretty common among 5th Gen. Maximas and I30s. There is a lot of posts about MIL code P0420 in 5th Gen. Forum. I have the same problem, too. There is a TSB on this (ITB00-0054):
----
APPLIED VEHICLES: 2000-2001 I30 (CA33)
APPLIED VIN: Vehicles built before JNKCA31A*1T009745
APPLIED DATE: Vehicles built before July 30, 2000
----
According to the TSB, there can be two causes for the incident: ECM program misdiagnosis or damaged cat. Either way ECM reprogramming must be performed first. It looks like the procedure has to be followed precisely as described in the TSB and stored MIL code of P0420 has to be the starting point in order for an Infiniti dealer to claim it as a part of warranty repair.
Hopefully your warranty hasn't run out and it's all covered.
I don't know how much Infiniti dealers want if it isn't covered by warranty, but I suggest that you go to a dealer if it seems to be covered by warranty. I tried to fix mine under warranty but the SES light disappeared while I was trying to set a date to go to an infiniti dealer.

I was going to take my car into the dealer to day, started up my car, and the light is gone!!
it hasnt come back, and I dont know if something is broken or what I should do. How can they fix something that says its not broken anymore??
Infiniti conspiracy
The SES light turns on again eventually if your problem is same as mine. So far mine (2000 I30) has turned on five times since the purchase in last fall. Until 4th one I didn't know about the TSB at all and reset the ECU.
