New I30 Owner - do I have a VLSD?

Hi,

I recently purchased a '96 i30 5spd with 85,000 miles, and I was wondering if all these cars came with a limited slip differential? If not how do I know if mine is equipped with one?

It also has an aftermarket sunroof that doesn't work, does anyone have a basic wiring diagram for these? It is a One (Toggle type) switch open close with five wires at the switch. If it is broken how hard are these to replace? Must the headliner come off completely?

Thanks
Marco

All i30 manuals have the VLSD. Autos only got the VLSD in 99.

I don't think that is right because all "t" models had VSLD as part of the "t" package, regardless if the auto transmission was added as an option or not. That is what I had read at www.Nissannews.com a while back, but they now long have their archive vehicles listed so I could not confirm that. Best way to know is to look at the tranny code stamped on the firewall, per the FAQ's.

The information I submitted was from consumerguide.com. I don't know how accurate they are though. However what you are saying is very interesting. So there could be a NON "t" i30 with a manual transmission without the VLSD? All i30's that I have seen with a manual transmission were "t"s.

Actually in the FAQ:

Actually, there are non "t" 5spd I30's with LSD. An old org member, Fast96se had one.

There were three basic models of I30's

The "S" model, or standard model. Came standard with a 5spd, cloth interior, no sunroof, no heated seats, no spoiler, no homelink, no auto dim mirror, but it did have the Bose as did all I30's. The VSLD could be purchased on the standard model but it would be very rare to see one.

The "Leather" model. had leather, sunroof, bose...all the goodies. This is the most common I30. It is the only or the three models that had an auto tranny as standard equipment. VSLD could be gotten as an additional option.

The "T" model. Every option including the cold weather package which had VSLD standard. The only additional option not included in the "t" package was the auto tranny.

These were just basic pakages the dealers offerd, but from my expierence an I30 can come just about anyway if the customer wanted it like that. But I would say 90% of the I30 are the "leather" model with the auto tranny.

Very interesting. I must have the leather model because I have leather, sunroof, auto dim mirror, homelink, and auto trans, and bose. I have no heated seats though. I have only seen two of the cloth standard models- one with an auto trans and one with stick, and most i30ts I have seen have the auto transmission. My friend drives a 96 i30t with a manual and every option possible, except the cold weather package (I think, he has no controls for heated mirrors, but does have heated seats).

The heated mirrors have no contols. He probably has heated mirrors if he has heated seats.

So do the heated mirrors stay on all the time? Or is there some kind of sensor that activates them when needed?
