well for all four?? this is what a shop said, "you need to replace all four" $700 with out labor???

Looks like it will cost you about $350 for all four. Replacing them is really simple, even for mehcanically challenged people. I have done them on my 96 in about 20min and I can't imagine the 2000 I30 is much harder to do.

I would be damn sure you really need all four. Seems a bit odd that they all are bad. How did the shop come to the conclusion that they were bad. CEL?

Oh, and if you get the sensors from the above web site, get the OE ones. The universal require splicing the wires and the OE ones just plug right in.

Hey Mikey, my friend has a 96 I30 which failed emissions. She was instructed to replace an O2 sensor.

They didn't say which one? Can you tell from the code? PO150 O2 sensor circuit malfunction (Bank 2 sensor 1)

If you can help her out w/ a part number, that would be great!!

Also, the dude said something about having to reset the ecu?? Is that necessary?

 

Since a code is stored, you will have to clear it (aka reseting the ecu) after you replace the part because the smog shop will not even test your car if you have any codes stored. I'm guessing the car is obdii, so even after reseting the ecu, you will need to drive it around for a bit for the car to relearn everything. Part of what the car re-learns is specific emissions monitors, the car has to relearn those then you are ready test again. It shouldn't take more than a day to relearn everything if you drive it, let it idle, let it cruise for a while, etc. To reset the ecu, you just disconnect the battery ground for a while.

 

Sounds like one of the two o2 sensors on the Y-pipe. For me to know for sure which one you need to do the self diagnositc test per the screw on the ECU (4th gen forum sticky). The part can be purchased for cheap at www.oxygensensors.com. You just need to find out if it's the left htd or right htd 02 sensor. It's real easy to change.
