Our new (used) year 2000 I30 pulses...
We just got a good deal on a nice 41K mile Infiniti I30.
But two things are wrong. After a few minutes, when driving at a low but constant speed in overdrive, the engine speed will decrease and increase about every couple of seconds. You feel and see this pulse on the tach. Running at freeway speeds eliminates these pulses as does disabling overdrive at the lower speeds.
It may be related to the AMB button that is suspose to display Ambient temperature, except it ALWAYS displays 117 degrees. Also I can't find the sensor for this "in front of the radiator???"
Any advice?
Jim

Transmission/engine surges.
Bumping this. Same problem (below) with engine/transmission. Infiniti dealer wanted to replace the transmisssion. We said no.
Other problem, the AMB sensor was missing and the wires wrapped around the wiring harness. That's fixed now.

Sounds like the torque converter might be locking and unlocking for no good reason? Not really sure. Why don't you want to let them replace the transmission? It's under a 5 year 60000 mile powertrain warranty so they should have to replace it with an OEM Nissan unit. Should make it good as new.
