chrome bashers?

I've notice that this forum (i30/i35) does alot of bashing on chrome wheels. To each there own but, I would like to know the reasons why so many i30 owners dislike chrome wheels? I'm not making this an argument thread, just a discussion. I do infact own chrome rims and think that anything else (besides highly-polished aluminum rims) looks unappealing. What are your opinions on this matter?

chrome rims only look good on certain color I30's and I35's i personally want the 17x7.5 I30t rims i think they make my car look good. chrome just doesent sit on a silver I30 IMO

I like polished wheels more than chrome. I don't like chrome because of the rough NE winters and the salt eating at it. Also, the chrome wheels can pit and get damaged more easily. I agree that painted wheels look horrible. Polished is the way to go.

Chrome looks good on black cars, but thats about it.

My problem with chrome wheels is that most of them look like cheese. Heavy-azz chrome wheelz just seem like a purely visual mod. I want it all, looks and performance.

BTW... Mike, i almost bought a set of the 2k/2k1 t wheels, but I need to save my money for school I love those wheels!

i am looking for a set of g35 sport coupe 18'
they look great and not very heavy cuz
im pretty sure that if you add havier rims the stoping and accelarating power will decrease!!!
and also not a huge fan of aftermarket parts

I had the factory 6 spoke wheels. I went and got the 8 spoke chrome plated wheels and think they set the car off alot more and look great. My I35 is silver get more compliments on it with these. But to each there own on what they like.

What I don't like about the G35 wheels is that they're staggered. One, it doesn't make sense for a FWD car, and two, how do you rotate tires?

Some people have gone in with another member and bought 2 sets, then one persn took all 4 fronts and the other took all 4 rears. I woudl not NEED rears, so if I were to be buying them, I woudl be fine with the 4 fronts. Unfortunately for me, I am not going UP in tire size but DOWN.

Anyway, back to the topic, the thing is that wheel choice is an entirely subkective thing. I happen to dislike the basic design of MOST (not all) chrome rims. On top of that, I just am not a really flashy person. I much prefer a more subtle sporty rim. On top of that, chrome is heavire than paint, and if you are like me and go for a 13 lb. rim, chrome could add over 10% to the total wheel weight.

I do have to admit that some polished designs are growing on me, but I am most attracted to a silver or gunmetal rim, depending on the color of the car and the wheel design itself.

My new rims are silver with a machined lip. If I could get them polished, I would, but they would be too expensive.

I am more into go than show. But I understand that this is an I30 forum and I am going to be the minority when it comes to how I mod my car. To each his own, but if you ask for my opinion I will tell you what I think.

You get what you like... there is nothing wrong with chrome, but I like my polished... I might down the road get a pair of summer rims... For me, my car is flashy enough, if i put chrome on them, that will draw too much attention....

Are you asking for Mike's opinion on you buying the I30t rims that max5spd has?

I did not know that he was selling them, but they are a nice looking rim that should fit just fine on the 2K that you have. on top of that, I think that they will look nice w/ the A33 body style.

I think the I30t wheels are great. I found a good deal on ebay, but I knew I would need to buy tires too. I need to be saving my money, and tires would be another $600-$700

I am 99% sure that they are the 5-spoke ones that max5spd (see above for link to his homepage) has on his I30 right now.

The main reason I chose chrome for my 2k is because of all the chrome accents (door handles, f/r bumper & window trim) that are already on the car and I also got a helluva deal on them.

Hey Max,

I thought you sold those? Are those the ones you bought on ebay? I wanted to buy them from you, but I heard you had sold them.

They look great!

Some of the pics were with stock suspension, others with the H&R. The pic above is with stock springs. The pic I posted was with the H&R. I have about two fingers width.

I am not certain abotu this, but i believe that there has been a second generation of H&R released. Some guys, particularly those who bought them new in the las 12-18 months, seem to sit a little lower in the front. All of the 5MT who are level on H&R SEEM to have bought them new, and more recently than the set that I had, for example, which was about 2 years old.

Several 5MT have been level on them, and my thoughts are that H&R actually LISTEND to the feedback and perhaps lowered the spring rates, or even shortened the springs ever so slightly. Whatever it is, a lot more 5MTs are riding level now on H&Rs than were before.

If you look at my cardomain page, you can see that my AT was a little nose-high, but Nick (95maxrider, I think) has H&R on an I30 5MT and he looks level.

Weird.

yhea, Max5spd's front looks really low for H&R's. That is the drop I want! I just wish I knew for sure that is how my car would look with h&r's. My old school Eibachs are almost 4 fingers in the front and rear.

Nope. H&Rs and KYB GR-2s. Smoothest ride I've ever had on a lowered car.

Well that does it. I am switching to H&R's. I just hope the drop turns out like yours did. I just got new GR-2's as well.

I don't have the $ to buy H&R new, and there is really no way to know when you buy used which type yuo will get.

If I was buying new I would do the $170 shipped group deal on th Tein H-Techs, which even have the isolator sleves included.

Just my $0.02, but I have seen a few pics on 5MTs and they look fairly low (similar if not the same as max5spd's drop).

Yet to see any good pics of the H-techs, but they are an option as well.
