Fuel Indicator (guage) needle in the dash is malfunctioning now, and it was working perfectly alright till last week. When I fill the gas, the needle climbs upto 80% and doesn't show full 100%. Anyone experienced this before ?!?

Is it time to change fuel filter or put the tank cleaner or sthg, so that the indicator will show correctly? I believe some dirt must have accumulated on the float.
