All of the people I've talked to about locating a 1996 I30 ecu to use for the JWT ecu upgrade, want the numbers from my original ECU, and their feathers get ruffled when I tell them I need the ecu for an upgrade, and it doesn't match my current car. Question is, can I fake this number, like decoding a VIN number? or somehow create one that matches my cars options? Any help would be much appreciated.

 

Who are these people your talking to? They don't need your VIN, they just need to know you want a 96 I30 with what ever tranny type you want.

 

If you put a 96 ECU in a 98, you will probably get a CEL.
