Starter replacement problem.
Starter replacement problem.
Today I was trying to replace starter. The small mounting bolt came out easy, but the bigger one (17mm) bolt wont move. It's stuck for good.
Anybody have any suggestions on how to loosen it without breaking anything?

Great! Glad to hear you got the bolt out! Please keep us updated on how the whole job goes. If you can take any pictures of the work and process, I may need them very very soon. Think my starter may be going quickly.
It also may be my ignition switch. DAMN IT!

OK. I've got it out and disassembled.
Lots of old "gummy", sticky black grease on gears, shaft and plates. I removed it all with 90% alcohol and brush. Came out OK. (See picture)

Regreased it with “White Lithium” grease from “Pep Boys” ($3.49).
Assembled and bolted it back to the car. Starts little easier now.
Before, it used to give me problems only on cold days, so will see.
So far so good.
