Moving Driver Seat Back 6"-12"
Moving Driver Seat Back 6"-12"
Hello Fellow Org Members,
I have a 97 i30t. I also have a 6'5" frame and for the longest I have settled on "living" with the fact that I don't fit in most cars confortably. However, I love my 4th gen so much that I realized I would never trade it in if I could just fix on thing, the leg room. With the seat scooted all the way back, I still have the steering wheel between my legs and it gets uncomfortable after about an hour driving. Anyways, I took it to a custom shop and they wanted to charge $250 to move it back 6"-12". I wanted to see if anyone has run into this problem and if they could help me if possible. My goal is to do this job by myself.
Thanks,
peari30

I am '6 "5 and 220...........
If you are going to keep the car go for it. The right side of my shin always rubs against the side of the console. I think an entire foot is too much, maybe six inches. I always drive without my shoes ( that give almost another 2 inches of legroom) unless I am in a suit.
I am 5'5" and actually have trouble getting the driving position comfortable and being able to work all 3 pedals with my upper body in a good position. I have worked it out, bt I wish that I had about an inch less travel in my clutch...
i'm 6'6. I know how you feel. The back two bolts can be routed through new holes drilled in the floor. The front two bolts are where there would be a problem. If you look at your seat they are not flat on the floor, but on a raised portion.
I guess you'd have to fabricate some sort of a bracket to mimic that little hump that the seat rests on.
Let me know how it works out. I might be doing that next!

moving the seat back isn't hard, but you will have to fabricate brackets to keep the seat level do to the hump mentioned earlier. another idea, not sure about this one, would be to find longer sliders (maybe from a truck or large car) and modify them to fit on the factory brackets.
