I am wanting to get an intake, but am afraid that it might void my warranty. I am not doing a CAI since I have to cut a hole in the fender well. I have searched, and it looks like the CAI (cattman or place racing) is the way to go, but the cutting of the car to get the filter to the cooler air is not an option at this point, I don't think. I have not talked to a dealer yet. So I was looking at the JWT Pop-Charger I e-mailed them and can get it for $120 + shipping. Thoughts? Experiances? Good or bad? Thanks, Les

 

They can not void the warrantee for simple bolt-on mods. They have to be able to prove that your mod caused a certain problem in order not to cover it. So with an intake you would be in danger of voiding things like the MAF.

Anyway, some people just put the stock box back on if they need to take the car in for work. I think a WAI would make switching that much easier... I would still go with the PR though.

 

Cool. I have gotten verifications from JWT and Cattman that theirs will fit. This is what I got back from my e-mail to Place Racing. PR's website is down. Does anyone have a PR catalog with the pop-charger in it?

"I am honestly not sure if our intake for the Maxima would fit. We make one for the 2001-2003 Maxima. If you think it fits then you are in luck."

But since the 03 Max has the same VQ35DE as our cars then there should be no problem. Anyone know what I can expect to pay for the PR? Will I have to cut a hole in the fender for this one like for the Cattman?

Any kind of intake that is WAI (sits in the engine bay as an open cone filter) should fit without issues. I think the Injen CAI would work just fine, and the Place Racing CAI would probably work too - but you'd likely have the most fitment issues with that one.

As far as voiding the warranty...like mentioned above, they can only void things that go bad due to your modifications, in other words, mostly likely they could refuse to replace a bad MAF sensor. As far as modifications go...an intake is very mild. You're changing the tube that gets air into the engine...not that big a deal. If you're truly worried about it, it's a simple job to swap the stock stuff back in if you ever need to take the car in for warranty work. As for me...I've taken my car in with modified suspension, strut tower bars, etc. and never had any issues.

I wouldn't worry about it.

 

Just do it, you'll be fine. Too many people have these intakes just because its helps your MPG, its not something too out of the ordinary, plus like eveyrone said they'd have to prove that whatever you modified caused a problem. Good luck!
