Hesitant gear shifting, please help!!!!

I have a 98 I30 and my gears are shifting with a delayin a sluggish manner. I have already been stuck in reverse about 2 or 3 times now where the car will not move and i had to press the pedal hard and it would like kick in and do a burn out reversing. I have also been at red lights waiting for green and when the light would turn green and i press the gas I dont move then when I press it hard it would all of a sudden just kick in. So what I need help with is knowing how to fix the problem. I dont know wether to get a new throttle body new tranny or what. I dont wanna go to a shop and they tell me I need a whole new tranny when really its something smller than that. So can someone help me out

check the fluid. If you can drain the fluid and change it. Get a bottle of Trans-medic or one of those high quality transmission additives. They use them at transmission shops too so I know Trans-medic works.

Sounds like your torque converter is toast. Or your clutches are binding.

I have had my tranny fluid flushed and refilled and still have this problem, so your saying you dont think I need a new tranny though?

I assume you have an automatic. Depending where you go you may not need a "new" transmission. What some shops do is they keep a fresh rebuilt transmission around. Then they do a swap and rebuild the one that comes off your car.

I think you need a transmission rebuild; at least a repair and internal inpection. Take it to AAMCO or a reputable shop for an estimate.

It will cost you anywhere from 700-2500 depending on what needs to be done.

You can ask about putting in another used tranny. Get it diagnosed at a shop first though.
