Car autolocks - interesting find!

I didn't know before that our I30's lock themselves if we just leave the car without locking it ... i was cleaning rims on my car and after I guess 3 minutes, the car auto-locked .. interesting!

Is this 3 minutes time programmable ?!? Any idea ???

Did you leave the key in the ignition?

I'm not sure if there was a feature like that on the I30's. Mine doesn't do it nor any other cars with alarm systems that I know of.

I actually think that's bad because you can get locked out.

Did you try to do it again?

My old Jaguar used to do this weird thing where it would lock all the doors at random (sometimes when the car was just sitting with the doors unlocked, sometimes going down the road unlocked...)

OK i just tried mine and it didnt work....now that i think about it though, my moms Explorer with keyless entry would lock itself after a few minutes if you unlocked with the remote but did not get in.

I didn't leave the kei in the ignition, the key was in my pocket safely. While I was cleaning the rims, I heard the sound of doors locking and I checked that the doors are indeed locked!!! It's still happening, I just observed it today again as I was talking to my friend this time. :-))

perhaps you hit the lock button while it was in your pocket?

My wife's 2k3 celica does this, and I used to SWEAR that my Maxima did it, but if it did, it was a fluke. My I30 does NOT do this.

I remember reading something in my I35 manual saying that if you hit the "unlock" button on the remote, but did NOT open any door, that within 5 minutes, the car would lock the doors. I think this is a feature so that just in case you have the remote in your pocket and accidentally push the button your car doesn't get robbed.

Perhaps the the 2nd gen I30/I35 does this, but recently I must have hit and held the unlock button for more than 5 seconds when it was in my pocket, because when I went down to the car in my apartment parking lot the next morning, it was unlocked and the front windows were down all night long!

Thats weird, my car does not do this at all. I tried it (as the manual says) and to no avail the doors remainded unlocked for over an hour. Thank goodness I was at home when I tried this test.

my 97I30T does the same. It locks herself after sometime without the key in the ignition and all the doors have to be close.

actually, I was reading in one of the 5th gen threads that there's a way to change that with the Consult II. I didn't think max's did that at all but I guess there is a way. I'm not sure why they would make it so hard to do, but it's kinda cool at the same time that they have the ability to do that. It's bad too if you leave your keys in the car when you park it in the garage at night...

Same thing happens periodically in my 98 T. I attributed it to some faulty wiring somewhere. Or perhaps some other influence...

Its real nice when you're parked somewhere out of the way enjoying some, uh, herbal medication and all of a sudden your car decides to lock itself up.
