Can the Cigarette Lighter socket be used as a power outlet?

I plug my Cell into my cigarette lighter all the time... Thats what car adapters are for...
Perfectly fine. The only thing that makes that socket a cigarette lighter is the "plug" that you press in, otherwise it's just a power socket. The plug is pretty much just a resistor, it gets hot as the electricity from the socket tries to pass through.

you can always get like a 600 watt power inverter and have it hardwired to the car...
