Removing guage needles? anyone with experience here?

So, does anyone have experience removing the guage needles WITHOUT breaking them? I hear that if you remove the needle , you can severly mess up your guages?

When I did my LED guage needles, I removed the needles and almost Messed them up forever. The speedo did not work for a while and so I kept jiggleing it and messing with it and finally got it to work, but now it's about 8 miles off when I am doing above 50 MPH. No biggie, but would like to not have this happen again.

Is there a way to take out your needles and NOT mess them up? Please help me here.

Thanks

LOL yeah I agree with you there, but I just bought the 97 Maxima SE guages (white faced and red needles) I want to switch out the whole guage cluster and am thinking about buying a new Speedo guage from the dealer or somewhere. If I do this, I can have them set the correct mielage on the new speedo for me and then I can install it in the guage. That way everything will be legal and my guages will be white faced with red needles.

I don't think that I will have to remove any needles, but what if I did, is there any way to do it and not break the guage? Just curious.

I think my 97 white guages should be at my door today!! woooohooo.

I am going to be honest here, your best bet is to just do to the DMV and to get an odometer disclosure statement. No offense, but you seen like a novice at a lot of this stuff- which is normal- but I have done a fair amount of auto and electronics work and I was nervous. I have disassembled my gauges 3 or 4 times, and the first time I nearly F-ed them up. I live close to you and will help you, but the safest thing- especially if the cluster that you have is a bit delicate- would be to just get the odo disclosure statement and be done with it.

Does that ODO disclosure look bad when you go to sell the car? Granted, I have 150K on the thing now and will probably have well over 200K when I sell, but I don't want it to look bad or cause a problem when I go to sell the car.

The odo disclosure does nothing but varify for the new buyer that you cared enough to document things and keep them legal, rather than to have been shady and changed it without informing the proper authority. Which woudl you rather get? A gcar with a messed up speedo (like yours) or one with a documented speedo replacement (that at least reads the proper speed)?
