It's not a big deal at all, just don't do it again.

Just don't floor it, flooring it with 87 will increase the chance of pinging, and that can damage the engine when it happens to often. Just drive her easy and you'll be fine. Next time throw in premium gas and she'll be happy to give you that sweet V6 power again

Myself I allways fill her up with 98 RON, since here in the netherlands we have the choice between 95 RON and 98 RON, and nothing below that, I choose 98 everytime... it just seems that she runs best on that. Sometimes when I go to germany I even fill her up with 100 RON and she likes that pretty good to, seems to be a little smoother, faster and more economical on higher octane fuel, and why save on a few cents, the gas is expencive around here anyways, so the few cents won't make that much of a difference.

Yes, just take it easy and no hard accelleration until you get better octane in there. I would run her down to a half tank and put Sunoco Ultra94 or another high octane gasoline in there to bring the level up.

For those of you who don't know, I'm just going to clarify this:

European octane ratings are on average 4-5 numbers higher than the US numbers, because there are different types of measurement.
So US 87 oct = EU 91-92 oct.
US 89 oct = EU 94-95 oct.
US 93 oct = EU 97-98 oct.

I always use EU 98 oct. on mine.

So V6maximus.... you feel the difference with Shell V-Power in Germany? Have to try that next time I'm there.... here they only sell the 95 type V-Power... can't feel any difference from normal 95....

The only country were shell's V-power is for real is in germany, outside germany V-power is just 95 ron, so your money would be better spend on 98

And uhm... yep, when I fill her up in germany I do feel the difference quite good!

Somehow my car likes Citgo premium ... it juzzz runz smoooth and quick ... Same is the case with Mobil A long while ago, I tried the Plus but I could tell the difference... more ping ...

i believe ping is when gas ignites to early causing engine damage over time and causing a pining sound. the i30 i think has a "knock sensor" that will adjust to make it so this doesnt happen so nothing should happen really. i've never heard that you cant mix different octanes? and ive mixed them on many other cars without trouble.

Why not?

That's actually how they make the mid-grade gas. Like here in Norway they sell unleaded (EU) 95 oct, 97 oct and 98 oct. It says on the pump that 97 oct is being mixed in the pump with 33,3% 95oct and 66,6% 98oct...
Same in Denmark... they sell 92, 95 and 98 oct, but the station only has 92 and 98 in their tanks. 95 is a 50/50 mix of 92 and 98 oct.
