after revving engine it feels like its gonna die for a sec then normal...anyone?
Subscribethis has been going on for a while now...car in park.. step on gas, rpms to maybe 3000 max, let go,, drops to almost 100 rpms, feels like its gonna stall far about a sec, then regains,,,,if at night, the headlights dim for a sec too....anyone have this prob or know whats up... the car has 132,000,,, new alternator and battery,, all tune up stuff is ok....97 i30t auto.. generic cai with k@n cylinder..stock otherwise
damn,, battery is less than 1 yr old...let me check connections and warranty
thanks

If you have other eletrical parts upgrades and/or mods such as higher wattage bulbs, sound systems..etc, these can also cause that kinda problem. Check the fuses, alternator and all of your mods' wiring and connections.Originally Posted by raybone97-I30t

no CEL? I doubt it's the battery or alternator...they are new.
no cel,,,i do have the 1pc headlights with h4 bulbs,,added a r/f cd changer, nothing else added electrically, and this has been going on for almost 2 years now..more annoying than anything,, i just wanted to see if anyone else had the problem...dont know if this is related,, but yesterday,, i did a pretty hard accel to like 65 on my side street,, then came to a rather abrupt stop... the car actually stalled... and it was kinda the same going from mid to wot, and then let go....hmmmmmmmmm

Have your fuel filter, fuel line and fuel pressure checked by a shop that you can trust. I had the same problem described above with my old 92 Max SE. When I had it checked out, it was a dirty fuel filter and fuel was kinda clogged too because of that. After replacing the filter and used 2 bottles of fuel cleaner, problem fixed. Well, that was my case, yours MAYBE different, but have those checked out to eliminate as many possilbilities as you can.
thanks for the suggestions...im gonna recheck all my electrical connections on the new headlights, the cd changer, my negative battery cable seems not to holding a tight grip on the post too...the screw is fully tightened but its not tight on the post......ALSO,,,,,,THIS HAPPENS DARN NEAR EVERY TIME ON A COLD START....I do not press the gas pedal before turning key,, it starts right up,, goes to about 3000 rpm, then rpms drop to around 200, sounds like its gonna stall and then corrects itself.....fuel filter, plugs, bg-44k, air filter, pvc, and tranny flush all done <10,ooo miles ago..

I never had it rev to 3000 rpms on start up, but I did have the engine speed drop to like 400 rpms while driving around town and it would catch itself and jump back up to the normal 550. This would happen upon accelerating in the mid range, then braking for a turn. I cleaned the TB and never had the problem since....Originally Posted by raybone97-I30t

The 3000 rpms at start up is really weird... I don't know how it is possible that your starter motor could actually spin your flywheel that fast. The STANDARD starter on our cars has like a 1700 rmp max... The only thing I could think would be responsible would be something with the fuel system. For some reason the engine is getting way to much fuel at strat up, which is making the engine rev that fast.

From what I've experienced with my old Max, if the fuel system is already dirty, a new fuel filter won't do the trick. Also there's another possibility that the motor oil maybe leaking into the spark plugs sockets and flooding them, have those checked out, it doesn't hurt to. Good luck!Originally Posted by raybone97-I30t

EDIT* Well...not all of the sockets, only 1 or 2 the car can still start, but it'll be running rough and since the engine isn't getting all the sparks it needs, it may stall.
ok, dont laugh,,,,if i get the fuel system flush,, like bg or similar,,power flush,,,should i replace the fuel filter before or after the flush?

Anyway, you should replace it after the flush, as fuel will go thru the filter first. The same prob you described happened to my old Max and the shop did this to fix it and only costed me about $115 for everything(didn't know how to work on my own car back then).
As I've mentioned, flooded spark plugs can also cause this prob and I've seen it before. So have all of these checked out, and if the shop you go to know what they are doing, they should be able to find out the cause of the prob fast.

Damn I got the same problem. When I step on the gas and rev it up to 3000 rpms and after I let loose it drops to 300-400 rpm. My idle is at about 600-700 rpm
since you have a cai, Check the connection between the piping and your maf. If there is a leak somwhere between the maf and the throttle body then you will get what you are talking about.
