does anyone know if the 2001 infiniti 130's engine has a long life. i know if you drive right and keep up with your car it will last a good while. i just want to know if the infiniti has a good engine like the nissan maxima and the honda accord and civics. any replies would be appreciated. are they a good car for the price

Umm, Nissan owns Infiniti. So Infiniti engine = Nissan engine. You take care of the engine and it will take care of you. 200,00+ miles should be no problem.

Engine Life

I've got a 96 I30, with 195K and we've never had a problem with it. I person I bought it from never had any problems with it. nissans are built to last, so engine life shouldnt be an issue

I have a 96 I30 and just hit 150K. I have not had any problems with either the tranny or the engine. Mine is an auto. From what I have heard from Mechanics, dealers, and people in general is that the engine and transmissions on these cars are some of the stongest on the market. SO far I believe them. My car still runs like a brand new car. I love it.

Looks like this question needs to be placed in the FAQs, especially the part about Nissan= Infiniti!

From my time on the org, and my own expierence, the motor can go 250K no problem but the car will usually go through two trannys by then. Espeically if you got a 5spd.

LOL.

I believe it's worth putting up a sticky on things recommended out of experience for periodic maintenance Not covered in factory manual but those which we really need to replace or service and the time period as well.

I had my car at Infiniti 2 months ago for what I thought was a tranny problem, the tecs seemed astonished that the car would have a problem with the tranny due to the fact that there rarely if ever have any problems. After some investigation it turned out to me the Mass Air intake which was causing the car to shift poorly and have a horsepower loss. Long story short there tranny’s are built to last!!!

I just keep my oil changed regularly, get a fuel system flush maybe once a year, most of the miles are highways miles, so the car isnt' as beat up as most people would think.

92k Auto here... clean crisp ****fs every time... The wierd thing about our cars is that the AUTO is more reliable than the MANUAL.

My friend has a 96 I30t manual with 125k and he is on his 2nd tranny and 2nd set of tranny bearings as well... NOT GOOD... That is why I am dropping in a 98 or later manual so I can be assured that the bearing issue has been revised.

kcryan: your problem could be from a bad VSS. Got any CELs?

no check engine lights i can see if the ecu has anything in it if that would help. this sound only occurs at about 37-42 mph in the 1500 rpm range and never if the od is off. it thunks into the gear vibrates and growls then thunks outta the gear.

any help would be greatly appreciated

what does vss mean? varible speed sensor?

Close... vehicle speed sensor, and if is malfunctioning, it can be cause for irregular shifts. I would get a reputable mechanic to diagnose the problem, beacuse auto trannys are so complicated it could be anything.... You will chase **** around forever.

Then it is not dirty fluid that is causing your problem... Your fluid could be dirty and due for a flush, but only a **** brown color will make for sh!tty shifts. Something else is wrong....

auto trannys are so complex that a qualified mechanic with all the diagnostic tools is the only one that could solve the problem. Just have him identify the problem, and if is is something simple, like a bad VSS, then you can fix it yourself and save the money.

I can't vouch for anything but I30's, but my tranny went on me at 100K. Maxima's have tranny problems, 5spd in particular, auto's are not too bad but definately not the strong point of the car. So if maxima's have problems then the I30 is no different.
