i30 suddenly won't start

I have a 99 i30 with about 47K miles that was running fine. It won't start all of a sudden but does turn over and there is plenty of fuel coming out of the fuel filter. Any ideas?

Thank you,

websta

thanks for the reply skorpio. Unfortunately, this happened at work and that's where the car is stuck. When I get back from a road trip on Thursday, I'll test it for spark and report back. Thanks again for the tip.

No problem,
This is the first thing you look at, fuel and spark. Later, if both are present, open the oil fill and see if cams spin during cranking. Your tentioners might be loose and the chain skipped a tooth causong timing to be off... many things can cause no start

Let us know whats up when youll take a look at it.

The chain skipping would be a very unlikely problem. Is there any CEL codes appearing?

It could be your battery. Strange as it sounds just last week I went to start mine up and the car cranked, but would not turn over. I had power to all my lights, seats, and windows, but the damn thing would not start. I thought my starter motor went out, due to strange cranking noise. After dropping in a new battery it started. Weird but true.

I have seen few chains skipping but none on hydraulic tentioners, but what he might be expiriencing is what some of us are, no startup during cooler weather. It has happened to me many times and I still have no clue what it might be... altho it only lasted 10-15 seconds of cranking and it starts finally. Im wondering if he figurd out what was wrong

regards, Bart.
