Guage color question

Can anyone tell me how to make my guages Bright White?

I thought that if I purchased bright white LED's, that would work, but there must be a film in the guage itself because when I installed these, my guages turned purple!

Any thoughts?

I don't think there is a film in the gauge, because I've switched out my gauge bulbs, as did my friend with a Maxima and I know others on the Org have done it as well. I used regular bulbs that were originally bright blue in my friends Maxima, but they had faded to the color of my climate control so i put them in my car. Turns out, they faded to soft white (though when you first turn the lights on, they're still green) anyway. The LEDs my friend bought to replace the bulbs he gave me were blue LEDs and they light up the same color with and without the gauges. I assume its the bulbs you used.

Best of luck.

Hmmm, That's strange. I don't understand why my guages would be purple. I lit the LED up by itself so I could see what color it really was outside of the guage and it is bright white, but put it in the guage and light it up and BAM, it's purple. LOL

I have the white faced Maxima SE guages in my car. DO you think that could have anything to do with it?

I think what I will do is just buy the bright blue LED's for my guages so they at least match my window switches and gear lights.

UGH, why can't anything be easy with this car! lol

Thanks.

If things were easy, it would be TOO easy...

My friend's Maxima is an SE so it has the white faced gauges as well, and like I said the light is the same color with or without the gauge face. Good luck, anyway.

I did exactly the same thing you did and it turned out to be purple, too.

LOL! Damn it! I think our I30's are messing with us guys!! So here is what we have:

White LED bulbs in the guages = Purple OR pink. Interesting. Sucks, but interesting.

Well, if anyone has a solution, please share.

I want WHITE GUAGES, AS BRIGHT AS POSSIBLE. HOW DO I DO THIS??? Thanks

I may just match the window switches I have and do blue LED's in the guages. Ugh, I have to settle.

The SE gauges have no film on them. I have had them in my past 2 cars w/ no purple or pink tint. You ant a bulb with a blue-ish hue unlit to result in a VLT that is white.

So did mine!!! WTF!?! That's not the worst part either. I also cracked the black bezel that you need to take out, as well as the gauge cluster glass piece. My interior is all ripped apart now. Between doing that and switching in my new radio it looks like a bomb hit it or the nearest car thief. Doc, you needa PM me with a better way to take out/put in the black bezel and glass piece...I had writeups, but the one I found in the 4th Gen FAQ's link went dead, for me atleast. This sucks, I want my gauges to be Bright White along with the Shifter Light.

I missed this post but I think Pat is right. When I took out the stock bulbs, I wasl ike "Why the f- are these tinted blue?" Now, after seeing and reading what he said I wonder if there's a way I can tint the one's I have from Super Bright to blue, so they will come out White. I don't want White SE Gauges I want the stock Black, but with Bright Crystal White light output. Anybody have any suggestions on how I should go about tinting these little Single WLEDs?

When I put in my Cefiro Chrome Gauge rings, I cracked both of these pieces as well. Actually, my friend did haha, but either way I had to pay like 25 bucks for a new glass piece from Infiniti (it was actually more expensive from Nissan). I don't know how bad your black piece is cracked, but I wet sanded mine down a little bit you wouldn't even know it was cracked.

I heard somewhere that a lot of people break one or both of these pieces the first time they open it up - don't know if its true or not.

HaHa, well atleast that makes me feel a little bit better. I guess I'm gonna start calling Nissan/Infiniti Dealerships cuz I really don't need/want a new cluster. Oh, and the black piece yeah it isn't THAT bad at all, plus I'm going to be putting a Woodgrain kit over the part that is cracked so I guess I kinda lucked out. Thing is though, the 2 center clips for the trim broke off, so I don't know if I will need them or not to put the damn thing back on. Last thing I want is it to be loose and rattling and sh*t ya know.

By the way, I just Modded a mod. Hopefully it works. I took off the blue sleeve/condom that the stock 194 bulbs were in and krazy glued them over the SuperBright LEDs and stuck em in. They're lit, but it isn't dark enough to tell if they're pure bright white or still purple hinted. I will see later tonight and let you guys know. I don't see why it shouldn't work tho.

Well, bad news my ''modded'' mod didn't work as planned. They're still purple. I don't understand, I figured if they were blue tinted it would become white like Pat was sayin, but I guess not. I really don't want White SE Gauges, I want the Black ones, but I want Bright White LED output. This sucks. Has anyone ever taken that film out or know how to?

Max Mutes: I wish you had broken your clear plastic piece a few months ago. I was chatting with another org. member who cracked his and I happen to have an extra one laying around. i sent it to him no charge, not even shipping. I am such a great guy! lol

Anyway, the timing is off now, but that sucks. When i purchased my car I wanted to replace the plastic cover on the guages so i went to the dealer. If I rememebr correctly, it only cost me about $12 or so. I would check out Pennicl Nissan online and see what they charge. I have ordered from them before and they have been great!

Good luck buddy. Sorry the mod didn't work out

I have 6 brand new LED 194 bulbs if anyone is looking for some. I went with Blue LED in my guages and LOVE IT!!!! I just need to change out the LEd's in my AC unit and my whole car will be BLUE!!!! mmmmmmm blue......

Hey Doc, could you email me some pics of the Blue interior. I might get my mind off this white and go to blue. White is such a b*tch lol, plus blue is hot anyway.
