hood button???

so i was changing my headlights to silverstars today and again my attention was caught by a button type thing that was on the driver side above the headlight....it oboviously was there to check if the hood is open of closed but 2 questions theres no lights in the car or under the hood that relate to this that i could find and it was disconnected since i got my car i found the connector today and hooked it up but i dont know what it does.

anyway my real question is do all of you guys have these?
i got a 98 and if you guys with the same or similar year could check for me i would be eternally grateful. also anyone know what it does?
my only explanation is mabye it relates to a remote starter but as far as i know i dont have one

thanks for any help

I know that factory alarms have the ability to detect whether the hood's been opened up with the system armed. I've had a recent mishap with a non-responding alarm system and opening the hood triggered the alarm, so I'm guessing that's the sensor for the hood. They should have a light pre-installed, come to think of it, maybe i'll put one in using that button as a switch.

yeap .. as stated above..itis for the factory alarm... on my car the alarm is installed so that the factory alarm will soudn the horns if the hood or trunk is open.. and the rest is all the secondary alarm.. also u can install a vibration sensor.. form teh newer maxima to that hood "BUTTON" and ull have a vibration sensor for when some *** decides to come sit on ur hood.. or sumthing.. heh its int eh maxima threads.. just do search for vibration sensor mod.. or s umthing
