Hi,

I am about to buy 1998 i30, the seller claims that it is a TOURING model, but the car does not have a spoiler.
Is there a way to check it?

I don't think any I30t's came out of the factory without a spoiler. I don't know if there is a technical way to check via the Registry or by using a VIN number, but there are other things you can look for on the car. The emblem on the trunk will say I30t instead of I30, there will be white faced gauges and wood trim on the steering wheel, and different wheels (you'd have to look up what the touring wheels look like, I can't really explain them). I don't know if you could check the suspension, but that would be different also.

I don't think I30t's came with white faced gauges...those were on the Maxima SE's only but not on the I30's. And the wood trim on the steering was on the '99 Limited models only I believe?

Also, the t's had traction control and heated seats/mirrors standard along with VLSD(5sp only?).

But other than that, pretty much what infinitishock said.

You can check the wheels. The 98 touring models had 5 spoke wheels

If it is a "t" it will have a "t" on the trunk

I was just thinking that perhaps a reason why there is no spoiler is that the trunk was replaced? In which case it may or may not have the correct emblems if the trunk was taken from a junkyard or something.

Probably a longshot, though.

Possibility

There are some basic guidelines to look for when it comes to determining which model an I30 is, but when it comes down to it a customer could have had there I30 equiped anyway the wanted.

I know thas has already been resolved, but the touring does not necessarily have traction control and heated seats. My 99 t doesn't.

The heated seats were moved from the standard list to the options list in 1999, and the traction contol was made a new option for autos.

Incorrect. www.consumerguide.com is wrong. Heated seats were always an option and so was the limted slip diff (traction control) for autos for 96-99. It was the 99 Maxima that finally had the option of the traction control lsd.

There were three main types of I30s.

First, there was the base model, which came with cloth, bose, ABS, heated mirriors, 15'' wheels, and open end differential five speed manual tranny standard. Auto tranny, limited slip differential (traction control), sunroof, leather, heated seats/ low washer fluid warning light, sport suspension (stiffer struts and springs), sport wheels (15" BBS 96-97, 16" Nissan 98-99), and spoiler were all optional.

Second, was the leather model, which came with leather, sunroof, bose, ABS, heated mirriors, and open end differential auto tranny standard. Manual tranny, limited slip differential (traction control), heated seats/ low washer fluid warning light, sport suspension (stiffer struts and springs), sport wheels (15" BBS 96-97, 16" Nissan 98-99), and spoiler were all optional.

There was a limited model in 99 which came with leather, sunroof, bose, heated mirriors, limted slip differential (traction control), auto tranny, chrome kick plates, wood/ leather steering wheel, Q45 shifter, and two-toned paint, and special floor mats.

Options like the chome wheels, in trunk CD changer, and splash guards were options for all models.

The important thing to remember is that the I30 was a car that was fully customizable, i.e. it could come anyway the original owner wanted it. So different options are on different models.

I have a 2K I30T with no spoiler. Spoiler and side effects was a $1000 option.
