How much worse is the 3.0?

I'm loving the 3.5. This car really hauls a$$. At any RPM, torque torque torque. I especially love gunning it in second gear from 2500 to 3500RPM.....I probably waste so much gas doing that but i don't care this engine is a jem. I wanna know how the 3.0 drives. I've been meaning to test drive one just to see but I haven't had time. Anyone done any comparing? Sure the I35 is an auto but it's got so much fukin' power who cares. Just felt like venting.

Now someone tell me what I can do about this awful stereo. Bose should be ashamed. It sucks so bad compared to my '97 Maxima sometimes I wish I had the Max back just for that reason. Any ideas? Hey Meta, that day at Papermill I thought I saw an aftermarket speaker in your door........

If you used to have a 97 maxima then you have driven the 3.0

I'm looking to keep the same deck, I love it, but add better sound.....is this possible?

Yeah I'm aware of that. VQ30DE. 190/205. And that was a fabulous motor. Absolutely. I'm talking about the 2k+ I30 3.0 w/ 227 HP. I hear it's pretty slow, that the 3.5 was a HUGE improvement. I'd like to see for myself.

I don't drive one regularly, but my friend has a 2000 Maxima GLE and the only difference I really notice between my car and his is that he has quicker throttle response. Other than that, it doesn't seem much faster to me.

If you're referring to your '96 then it makes sense. The 5th gen added HP but also a couple hundred pounds so it wasn't any faster than the 4th gen. Until the 3.5

My wife drives a 2k Maxima. It is quiet and smooth, and power feels good at highway speeds, but my 95 is way faster. Faster than a VQ35, too.

5spd? If so then yeah your car will seriously haul. Hell my old modded '97 5spd was like lightning. I ran a 9.6 once in the 1/8. But the I35 is faster everywhere below 120. VVT, larger displacement, 65 extra ponies and 40 more ft/lbs torque do help out.

But don't get me wrong, the 95-99VQ was and is arguably, and in my opinion, the best V6 ever made.

The other thing is, I picked up one of my customer's cars, a 2003 SE automatic, and though it was a lot faster than my car I was disappointed with the amount of torque steer. I don't know if it was as noticeable in the 6th gen because I haven't driven one, but I don't think I'd ever buy a 3.5 with an auto. Just my personal opinion though.

Yeah there is torque steer, but I'd rather have 255HP and be able to do burnouts all the way thru first gear than have a car w/o it. I'm used to it anyway, all of my cars have been powerful front drivers.

For my age, the 2001 3.0L I30 is pretty fast. It has power whenever I need, but it also has a lot of torque steer too, but I still love it.

Of course if you are modded. Revisit this thread in about two months when i finally get done with my car (with supercharger ) and well see if the 95 is way faster than a VQ3.5. The only way the 95 will run me is if you are supercharged with HOWEVER, I got a little too .

The only '95 that could maybe beat the 3.5 auto would have to be a '95 5spd in PRISTINE condition. And then still I'm not sold on it. 255 is alot more than 190.

Never driven a VQ35DE before, only one testdrive in a 350Z but that's comparing aples to patato's....

I love my VQ30DE, it's fast, good throttle respons, lot's of torque, and with the 5 speed manual gearbox I have there is not much that I encounter on the roads that keeps up with me...

Still, I would love to have a turbo wich would bring me up in the 300 pony range!

maxedout... in knox too by the way...
I've had three different flavors of the VQ in the past, all stock.... started with a 95 auto, quick... moved to a 97 se 5 speed, much quicker than the auto... and now have an '02 i35 and IMHO this one is definately the quickest of all 3, the 5sp was close, but it just doesn't have the torque and pull of the 3.5. Again all have been stock so i think its a fair comparison. the 3.5 is purely a monster....

hehehe, about the stereo, agree 100%.... driving a G right now b/c infiniti is replacing my climate control fan motor and couldn't get it til tomorrow, and the stereo in the G kills the i's....

I love my VQ30DE-K, but it does need more power... Of course even if I had the 3.5 I would still require more power.

GIVE ME MORE, MORE, MORE!!!

360 at the wheels is a lot more than 255 at the engine.

That is a lot of power you are putting down. Have you tracked your car yet? You must have since you get your car dynoed. What are your quartermile times? Please tell me with all that power, you are atleast in the 12s quartermile.

Give me two months, I should be there with you in hp and tq or maybe more.

Nope, the nearest track is down in San Antonio, and I haven't made it there yet. So my car is just a dyno queen until then.

Good lord....Your car must be modded the hell out. But I was speaking stock versus stock. My nopi days are over. The only thing going on this car is mirror tint.

Very well put. I agree with you 110%.

LOL......Even the Bose in the G isn't as good as the Bose in the 4th gen Maxima IMO. I loved that stereo so much; it was probably my favorite thing about my the old car. It made your ears ring. The I35 Bose gets only about 60% as loud as the Maxima Bose. They really cut the costs with that. But oh well there are PLENTY of things in the I35 that offset it.

Stock vs stock an auto 3.5 will outrun even the quickest stock 4th gen or 3.0 5th gen.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, and I may even be wrong, but perhaps the reason why the 4th gen BOSE is louder is because of the speaker setup in the rear... 4th gens have the two rear deck speakers and my friend's 2000 Maxima GLE has one (I'm not sure if it is the same in the 00+ I30/I35). Before he replaced the deck and added two 12" subs, it seemed like his speakers were a lot more distorted when he turned the bass all the way up on the deck. Just a thought...

It just sucks. Cost cutting. They even did it a little bit in the 4th gen. The 95-96 Max, with the tweeters in the pillars, was the best setup of all. In '97 they relocated the tweeters to the front doors and made them "a part" of the 8" speakers in the doors. This made more distortion athough it still was probably the best factory setup or at least one of them.

I don't think it has anything to do with the speaker placement, I just think they put more money into other things than the stereo this time. My best friend has a 95 Maxima SE w/ Bose and she rubs it in my face how sucky my stereo is lol. Whenever I ride with her I'm like can we please turn it all the way up? God I miss that about my old car SOOOO much.

ahhh well actually tech. its supposed to be better.. what they did in the 00+ is they put a 8 or 10" i forgot what size sub in the back.. which is very nice sub... with two midrange speakers in the rear door.. 4thies dont have door speakers in rear doors... well... not yet(next project once both headlights are done) .... and the new sub is sorta like uses the trunk as a box and sounds good the prob is i think its too much power for hte speakers... and im not gonna lie.. if i pump some really bass heavy songs on my 4thie it gets a bit distorted.. but i dont... cuase im not big fan of LOUD LOUD LOUD music.. hehe...

BOSE may have nothing on aftermarket stereo equipment in most cases, but I've never been in a car with a factory stereo system that sounded better than BOSE. The Harmon Kardon in some of the BMW's that I've detailed has been just as good, but I wouldn't say BOSE sucks.

Bose is the best in the business. Period. Listen to a 4th gen Max/I30 bose turned all the way up and tell me a stock system of that time that's better.

My mother's Yukon has a Bose setup and it has so much kick to it that you'd think there are 2 12"s in the back. Seriously.

Maybe my problem is that I had such an exceptional Bose product and stepped down, I mean yeah, my stereo is okay....but just that...okay.....
