GLove Compartment
Correct me if I am wrong as I have not done it with my I30, but have for other cars.
You squeeze in on the sides of the glove box so that the hinge in the back can 'swing' out and not catch or stop it from come all coming down more. Sorry if the explanation is poor, but just think squeezing the sides of the box so it can go pass the hinges holding it from coming down further. The glove box will hang facing down and you will have access to the screws behind it to remove the box, but if you are checking the fan, then you might not have to remove it. Make sure the box is empty b/c whatever that is in it WILL fall out.
EDIT:
What makes you think there maybe leaves in there? Perhaps someone can solve it for you without having to take it apart.

Since you are A33, the process might be different, but I removed the glove box on my A32 to get the leaves out of my blower fan that were making a God awful amount of racket. This was several years ago so bear with me.
First, open the glove box door. Look in each of the corners of the glove box mounting area (not in the box itself). There should be a bolt or screw in each corner. Remove them.
Now the whole thing can be removed from its mounting area on the dash. You now have access to the blower fan unit. It is inside a casing and can be identified by air tubes leading in and out. The unit itself is secured by 3 or 4 bolts or screws that must be removed. Now that those are removed, the unit can be opened, relealing the fan inside. Use a pair of needle nose pliars to get the leaves or dead mouse or what ever is in there out.
The leaves were getting in via gap between the windshield and the balck plastic trim that runs along the bottom of the windshield. The previous owner either installed a new windshield himself or had some other fuccing moron do it and in the process, that trim's clips were broken and it created a way for leaves to get down in the duct work. Try to find the way that they are getting down in there so you will not have to mess with this **** in the future.
