i have a 96 i30, had the same problem, didnt realize that my brakes were making noise while that light was on, had them checked out and i wound up needing new brakes, once they were changed the light went off, the mechanic that changed the brakes said that its not just a parking brake light it does know when your brakes need a changing.

thats a good indicator your fluid is low and you need new brake pads.
