I have a 2001 I30 with halogen headlights. I would like to convert them to xenon if posible. Can this be done? If so, where can I get more info on doing it the right way? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Damn HID kits are expensive, next purchase has to be a vehicle with them already on stock.

You can install an HID kit or do a retrofit (better option) Kits will eventually burn up your wiring harness.

I'm thinking about getting a '01 I30 and one of the first things I'd do is to retrofit it with xenons if it doesn't have em already.

Are I30t and I35 xenons direct plug-in type thing?

Thanks.

Make sure to get a qualitiy kit with relays so you dont have to worry about your harnesses.

They will take their power straight from the battery instead of through your stock harnesses.

If you can find I30t or I35 headlights with the ballast and bulbs you would be good to go. I was going that route until I found out that they were like 800 a piece from the factory.

800 bucks a piece!! That's friggin pathetic. It's not like these are auto-leveling and adaptive projector headlights.

ahh HID kits dont burn up wiring harness.. they require less power than the stock headlight bulb...

i mean dont get ... something stupid.. some company like ... "brightsun" made in china with asian writing on them ...

no disrespect to the asian community..

get german philips stuff.. or OEM.. and get bulb adapter with shield on it.. i have a HID off a BMW.. it is fine.. i run it all teh time.. it only has ballast and Bubl connector.. no ignitor.. becuase its built inot ballast.. it gives that perfect bmw color.. that sorta purple but bluesish.. starts up fine.. and works fantastic..

dont get the hid kits that say... 8000k or 10000k .. there overkill cuase the higer bands jsut give u a stupid doofy ricey color.. stick to the stock spec .. 4000 or 5000 somthing k..

i hate those 12000kor whatever hids.. i mean its like BLUE.. jsut PLAIN BLUE... or Violet.. its annoying to see.. cause it doesnt make the night vision any better...

thats the only reason i did hid.. cuase the headlights on our cars.. SUCk.. and i drive at night alot.. so i had to have it... and well also for the coolness factor of being unique.. ehehhee.e.e hehee.

HID kits in general...are poor upgrades for lighting. Sticking a HID capsule in a reflector designed for halogen is NEVER a good idea.

If you're damned determined to go with HID, then you have two, real, quality options:

#1 - best - Factory HID housings - I30t or I35.
#2 - good - OEM HID projector retrofit. Cut out the HID projectors from another vehicle that uses OEM HID and transplant them into your halogen headlamps.

#1 is the best generally in terms of ease of use, beam pattern, and work involved. Look for used headlamps on ebay for a good deal or somewhere like www.car-part.com

Even the plug and play 4000K-5000K will eventually burn up your harness if you don't get a relay and upgraded harness an power them straight from the battery. They require less power than the stock headlight bulb yes, but that only after warmup. When the bulb cuts on the amperage running through your stock harness is way higher than it was ever rated for. It might not happen right away, but sooner or later your harness and electrical wiring WILL fail. Just get an upgraded harness and power it straight from the battery.
