FSTB on 99

Is there a way to get a strut bar on a 99 without cutting off the metal bracket thing on the tower? I was looking at the bar on the q45 and it's only bolted down by two of the strut bolts (same thing on camrys), so is there one like this for our cars, because by not having to use the bolt on the front i wouldnt have to cut anything...Also, getting totally off my own topic, which brand of coils for 99s is the one that doesnt have the problem b/c i think i have a misfire and im gonna swap mine out. thanks.

that bracket i circled (kinda hard to see) seems like it would definetly get in the way
of a strut bar. i think the bracket may only be on 99s but i dont know for sure. thanks for your help.

I had to make cuts to the bracket he referrs to on my 2000 Limited to put it on.

I since sold the 2000 and installed that same item on my 97 and it didn't have the bracket and required no cutting.

Just like the first two people said, you *do not* need to cut anything to install a FSTB on a 4th gen. Double E only said he had to cut it for his 2000 I30 Limited, which is a different generation than your car.

I hanve the bracket as well. I cannot vouch for EVERY FSTB, but with the STILLEN one it will not be a problem (i.e. no cutting).

Thanks Shock

...Same generation or not though...from his picture, that's the bracket I cut off of the 2000 to get the FSTB collar onto that side. (Maybe his manufacturing date was late enough that someting like that was incorporated into his 99?)

Anyway, it was simple to do and although I couldn't figure out what the heck that bracket was for (Maxima uses it?) I know it wasn't there for structural reasons, ...so off it went.

A couple of minutes with a Dremel cutting wheel and afterwards, some touch up paint and it looked perfectly normal.

I can't promise that the Stillen will have a (skinnier?) collar and not also require a cut, but again, it's a simple "adjustment" all the same.

I THINK I remember reading somewhere that 99s were a little different as far as fitment for the FSTB. Post in the 4th gen forum if you want more info.

When I put a strut on my 96 i30t I had to bend a piece of metal that was holding a hose of sort on the passenger side. Just bent the bracket out of the way and all was dandy.

Yeah...that aluminum tube is part of your a/c system. Some FSTBs mount up very close to this tube while others require some adjustments. Be careful if you do need to adjust it though. Go slow. I would imagine that many of them are close enought that they may touch or knock together while driving, no matter who makes it.

I had this happen and thought I had a wheel coming off it was so loud. A little adjustment and some black foam insulation around the A/C tube and all is fine now.

I own a '98 I30, and I had a problem with my FSTB hitting the top of the metal, high pressure hose from my A/C unit.

What I did was to put washers under the bolts closest to the bar to raise the bar up enough to clear the hose. I also rested the left bracket on top of the metal hose support (see photos: Full shot of FSTB ,Shot of FSTB bracket resting on A/C hose bracket )
