What's up guys,

Well I started to use Premium gas about two weeks ago, car's performance is better. But last night I started my car and drove it out slowly (was doing 20-25mph) down the road. Then when I got to the stop sign I look down and my CEL was just on... Then I push the gas pedal as far as normall would to accelerate calmly, but the car felt better in acceleration. In fact someone tried to race me and my torque must have went up cuz usually my tires dont spin unless I punch it, but tires spun without my demand. I dunno it's the next morning I drove to work and it's not driving bad... it's driving like it just decided to be a beast. But now I have to worry about the CEL. I know it's fuel/oxygen related, so most likely I'll have as many sensors replaced as possible.

 

Pull your codes and see whats wrong. No need to go wasting money on sensors that arent broken. :-)

The fuel your using is unrelated to the CEL. Pull the code and see what it is.

 

Alright I'll check out. But I did no mods or anything, it was only colder outside when this CEL popped up. Anyways I'll try to see what codes they are.

 

Well looked up the codes and I dont like one of them, cuz mainly I never heard of it nor I dont know if it'll cost me an arm and a leg to get it fix.

0302 - EGR System Hi/Low Flow
0303 - 02 Sensor

Your car is probably learning what its like to have the right gas in it.

Honestly the 02 is probably registering the air fuel ratio difference and threw a code. So, just reset the code and see what happens

 

I know you probably did, but did you close your gas cap properly at least 3-5 clicks? My fiance doesn't close her gas cap to her car correctly atleast once a month and the damn CEL comes on. Just thinking you might have air in the gas tank and that can cause a CEL but would eventually go off aournd 40 -50 miles or so I think.

 

But how about the EGR?...
Anyways I did reset it, and before I took it out for a ride I started her up and reved it a couple times. Started off driving her at idle speed which was a lil less than 10MPH. At the stop sign I accelerated normally till I hit 50 MPH, came to another stop sign and punched it to 50 MPH. Basically I gave it a 3 Point check in acceleration . Well when I got to my parking spot I brought it to complete stop and shut her off then turned her back on another 2 more times. So far the CEL has not came on. Hopefully it wont come back.

 

The EGR system is only used to lower your car's emmisions. I believe that it lowers your NOx levels more specifically. I didn't have a CEL, but my car did not pass somg because of high NOx levels because of what I thought might be carbon buildup somewhere in the EGR system. I researched this a bit on the forums and found that people have solved EGR issues by replacing their EGR solenoid valve, cleaning their EGR intake, and I even read of someone using Techron injector cleaner. Unfortunately, it isn't a problem that is easily diagnosed and it seems that more than a few maxima owners have run into this problem.

 

damn I need the haynes manual... i dont even know what the heck the EGR is ><
