I'm thinking of putting the "rare" navi system in my 99 i30 in a few months and i need some help from anyone experienced in this stuff. I already have the GPS antenna in my car b/c of the communicator phone, so i think all i need is the nav unit and new trim pieces to fit it. Here's what im wondering, are the 99 nav units the same as the 2000-2002 Q45 and whatever year QX4? they look the same (screen with A/C and Navi controls) and connectors at the back seem to look the same too. Also, do you think the auto a/c wiring harness will hook up to the new screen/ac unit? If the a/c hooks up i think this won't be TOO hard. Also does anyone remember the name of the guy who showed pics of this in his mom's 99, i want to PM him for part number for the trim pieces. Please dont flame me b/c i'm a new 17 year old asking about all of this stuff, i have gotten as much info out of the FSMs as i can and have saved up enough $ for this. Lol i just had to put that in there for all the people who go looking to start $hit on here, i know you guys are all cool enough to take me seriously. Well thanks for reading and please help me out with this. I mean how awesome would it be to stick nav in a 99.

Yea if i can get this done dont worry i will take plenty of pics and make the best write up i can...it would definetly look sweet in an i30. I'll try to take some time this weekend to look at printouts from the FSMs of the Q45 and QX4 to compare to the i30 a/c wiring, and (maybe) even ask the dealer (see if they're cool and help me out)...but post anything you know about it (especially with the person who already has it).Thanks

 

A/C harness are the same with 98-98 I30's .. but not the same with 96-97...

What i was really wondering was weather the regular a/c harness (99) would plug into the GPS unit or if i would need a new harness, since the GPS replaces the standard climate control. Now since this was a rare rare prototype model i would guess that infiniti wouldn't design a new harness, as this would be expensive for the few cars produced with the system. If this hooks up this install shouldnt be that bad, but if it doesnt it might slow things down some. Thanks for the help so far keep it coming...

I got my hands on a 99 wiring diagram so im gonna look at the back of the a/c controller and compare it to the wiring diagrams and figure all of this out...i think this won't be too bad to figure out.

Yeah i pm'd the guy with pics a while back...his mom has the nav in her i30. Im still waiting for him to respond, since he knows how to get the wood trim pieces. This would definetly be cool in a max to...but i dunno how hard it would be.

Look at the 1st pic, a few inches to the left of the nav unit...seems like right under the fuel door release button. Is that the in cabin temp sensor, replacing the one on the standard climate control unit? If it is then i need to track down that part too.

 

Update: After looking at the update to the 99 fsm regarding the nav system, which oldngivout sent me (thanks btw) i learned a few things. First, the nav was an option only in Cali, which is stupid. Second, regular 99s have the "auto amp" built into the a/c controller, while nav equipped models have a sepearate "auto amp". The auto amp is basically the brains behind the auto climate control. 96-98s had a seperate auto amp unit, but it is not the same as the 99 w/ nav auto amp. I am going to print out some pages and ask the dealer parts guy if the same part is common with another car, so i can look for it at a junkyard. Also, there is a unit called the speaker relay (it's not an electrical relay, that's the name of the unit) that allows the voice guidance to work. Also a different wiring harness is used to connect these units, but that can be taken care of if i find them. If anyone can help me track down some of this stuff for a decent price, it would be great. I still want to do this, but i am going to slow down and gradually find these parts and plan everything out. Thanks for the help so far, i think i know just about all the details about this system so now its parts time. If any of you guys see these parts or know if they are common with another car (like how our headunit is common with the Q), please let me know. Im sure the wiring can be figured out, but this isn't going anywhere without these few parts. Thanks.

yea so i wanted to resurface this thread again.. ive come upon a navi unit form a qx4 including cd-changer/navi/bose single din headunit... with all the wiring harness etc.. now i need the FSM or wiring for a qx4 and also if DONTTOUCHMYMONEY can offer some input i would appreciate it... anyhow if anybody reads the i30 threads anymore and has or knwo wehre i can ge thte FSM for 99 i30 with navi.. and the qx4 please let me know..

also anyone with a cleu on where i can get the gps antenna used by the unit i would appreciate it...

 

yes htat is my moms car and it has the nav in it but i cant find the cd for my area. it is a oem unit and the brand is called xanavi.

 

okay ive got the unit... from teh qx4 with teh single din bose unit with a trunk cdchanger.. all the wires ie... but i need the part number... for the trim.. also the gps and heater control units.. and i cant order from dealer without a vin ... rather they can punch in into computer and get me the stufff...

From when i looked at the diagrams a couple of months back you will need the nav unit (which is the same between q45/qx4/i30/03 max), the i30 nav setup retains the regualr bose headunit using a new trim piece that moves it down one, you would also need the a/c auto amp that is specific to the 99 cali i30 w/nav, a unit called the audio relay (plays voice guidance through right speaker), GPS antenna, in-cabin temp sensor (replaces the sensor on our stock a/c units, the area where the little grille is on the a/c unit). Also the screen needs to be wired into the vehicle speed signal from the unified meter control unit (gauge control unit), this has to be done before it works. The GPS models used a totally different main harness, so i think this would be really tough unless you could track down a 99 i30 with nav at a junkyard. The setup is also VERY different from the q45 and qx4. I studied those diagrams for hours and figured that although it would be a FUN project, it would be much cheaper to get a '00 i30 with navi. If you still want to do this and have any questions i'll help you out as much as i can since i've already studied the system. I can send you the wiring diagrams too. Lol even with all this negative crap i've said please try to do this if you think you can, i would LOVE to see the factory navi working in an i30!

that's so dumb...that you can't get the cd b/c of a salvage title. try ebay there may be some floating around there, or maybe see if someone with a 00-04 i30/02-03 max(i know the max is the same unit, and i think the i30 is cd-based, which means it would have the same disc) can order you one and you can pay them back. Actually i dunno where you live but i just found this on ebay:

it's the cali/nevada disc that will work in your unit. You may be better off getting a disc from someone who can order it for you...c'mon you've got the 99 i30 navi system...USE IT lol!

EDIT: go to http://www.zenrin.com that is the site that makes the acutal software for infiniti/nissan systems, and sell the cd's for $120 each.

hmm but the one form teh qx4 wouldnt work on teh i30 would it..?
so i would have to find a unit from a navi i30 .. or from dealer..

now how much do u think it would be for the heater control..

and the gps antenna i can get the same as a qx4.. find a junked on or dealer..

i contacted everything nissan and wanted them to tell me the prices... but its easier to tell them and have them look up what i need with a vin number..

so if vsamoylov can contact them.. that way he doesnt have to share the VIN thats great or if he is comfortable with ..giving me the VIN i can do it.. and you can trust me not to share any info with anyone else but hte dealer...

also im getitn the sindle din bose headunit with tape/tuner/CDCHG controls../ the 6disc cd changer... and the navi scree and disc and all the wiring straigh out fo the qx4... well cut now .. but the harnesses are there... for 350$... =)

i jsut happened to run into this unit at complete randomness..

and pondered getitg eclipse unit.. and all but.. 1000$... i mean if i can get this runnign for 500-600 its pretty good and im a freak for the stock look... (altough i got the projector and drop.. and all you still ge ta stock feel )..

this is why this intrigues me.. also if anything i can care less about the heater controlls.. i was thinking just getting the navi to work would be awesome enough.. cause i got the climate control above.. so jsut put the single din bose unit in teh push out tray spot.. expand the double din slot carefulyl and put the navi screen there..

or even remove the **** on teh right side of the unit.. and put it right inot the double din unit so the part with the climate contorls is hidden...

also 2 question for vsamoylov...
1. I know this is like asking SOOO MUCH... but can u open up ur dash and tak ea few pics of whats going on there.. ill give u directions on how to take out the i30 dash.. if any concerns...

2. when u turn on teh car.. does the temprature screen outomatically come on..does the unit power up.. or it jsut goes to navi screen ... or is it going to show the heater stuff... what does it do first..?

I really wanna get this working cause this will give me the one thing in my car thats been missing... navi... yay!

im getting the bluetooth kit that gets hardwired to the car too... and giving it its own little amp and speakers....

a little bit of an update for my baby.. i lvoe this car and want to update it a bit with all the technology comming out.. so she doesnt feel left out and outdated...

she has 10112 miles on her.. and she still starts with the first turn.. im very attached to this car.. and plan on keeping her even if i get another car.... other cars can be one night stands.. but i go hoem to my i30 at the end of the night...

 

wow $350 for all that is an awesome deal...since you've got the harnesses i think you could make this work. Honestly if you coud live w/o the voice guidance for a while all you really need is the a/c auto amp from the i30, you've got the gps antenna and you need to tap into the speed signal from the harness you got. I say track down an auto amp and be the first person to install the nav screen with climate control in their i30.

 

thats the thing.. the voice guidance would still work no? becuase the bose unit that coems with the whole setup is connected to teh nav? no..? cause keep in mind its from a qx4.. its not the regular double din unit its a single din unit out of teh qx4....

now i can even connect the voice feed out to a line converter and then to the small speaker and amp that im going to use the blutooth phone voice through... and have a switch or something that can auto slect whichever feed has a signal runnign throuhg it...

small speakers mounted... in cabin in diff locations.. a small tweeter in the a/c vent area.. (behind) and midrange with bass set a bit high around where the covering for the ecu is .. on passenger and driver side. should give a pretty central feeling form teh system...

heres what i was thinkign if i cant integrate the temp controls... or in the time it takes to completely figure out the temprature amp etc.

only the below fabrication would be where my bose is.. and hte single din bose unit where the push ou ttray is... i would remove the **** for temp control.... and the temp butotn on righ thand side are fairly flat..

 

if they can get back to you about the a/c auto amp that and it's not too expensive, that would be the easiest way to go. Doing all of that fabrication to remove the a/c controls would be tough. If that unit doesnt cost too much i just might have to look into this again :-) I'm pretty busy studying for an exam today but if i get a sec i'll send you the wiring info on the navi. There was actually a supplement released to the fsm, it goes over the changes to the a/c and the wiring for the navi. If you get the info on the other units post the part numbers, i'm actually getting excited about this again lol.

also here is what my past experience is.

when the car was bought the cd was stolen. car has a salvadge title. i found out about enrin. bought a cd from them for like $120 plus shipping. i got the package and it contaiend 2 cds. one is installation and the other is the actual map. well i went out to the car and put the installation cd in. i got a error message that would let me install the map cd. well i called zenrin and talked to them. they said that my navi system is a prototype and they dont have the cds for it because its a prototype. they said that thse navis were the first one that came out in the i30 and they all had a different type of cd that was just made for them and that the i30 in 2k had different cd. i am talking about the installation cd. i think its jsut a bunch of bs. i just dont know if the 2k installation and map cd will work in this unit cause of what they said. that was the second time i called them. the first time they told me they couldnt do anything cause the car had a salvadge title. so i have the navi but it doesnt work. people at zenrin are just

 

well ask one of the member on org.. and once i power up and get the unit runnign form teh qx. and i have it working..

ill be more htan glad to hook u up iwht the cd... so no worries on that... and im shure we might be able to make a copy for u... with the right burning software...

Have you picked up the unit yet? Powered it up? I've got the wiring diagrams for the i30 w/nav but not the qx4...i really dont know where to get the diagram for the qx. I'll send you the i30 one tomorrow, but for the qx you should really think about getting a 1 day subscription to nissan-techinfo.com...it's only like $20 and if you get it at 12:01 tonight it'll last until midnight monday, which pretty much makes it 2 days. You can access all nissan/infiniti fsms and tsbs. Other than that i dunno how to help you with the qx unless you know someone with an fsm. I'll send the i30 fsm out tonight/tomorrow.

my shop would let me use ther computer they have..

teh radio part looks pretty much plug and play including the cd changer.. etc... but there are 1 or two wires that are out of palce .... also teh navi i have no idea what to connect for power... or always on .. or any power.. i gotta get the wirign diagram.. im going to go take my brothers car for inspection today.. so at that time ill get to look at the alldata system in the workshop.. and pull up what i can on it.. hope the haver wiring diagram..

 

k iiveo got the circuit diagram of the qx4 for the temprature.. with navi.. only thing is how do i know where to get this connected on teh harness attached to the qx4... liek which wire...? hmm will get this stuff scanned and posted... soon.. any word on teh manual..a nd the PICS of teh other i30(with nav)...

EDIT: BTW next time youre talking to the dealer you get the part numbers from, as expensive and dumb as this sounds, could you get the price for the entire main wiring harness with navi AND Infiniti Communicator? I figured that if i'm gonna do this sometime i coudl save up and do it like this, which would make it look 100% like the factory system. And when it's all done, i could sell the a/c unit/trim pieces/ main harnessand hopefully make a little off of that to offset the HUGE cost of a main harness. See if you can ask them. And keep us posted on anything new.
