Windows opened by itself??? Mystery.

I have an I30 1996, and in last four months, it had happened at least three times. The first time was a morning and it was raining. When I approched my car, I noticed that both of front windows opened fully. Water got into the car. I thought it was my mistake in previous night not to close it, but I could not be sure.

Last sunday, my wife and I went to shopping and came back about 10 minutes later. Both front windows were open half way. Both of us remembered the windows were closed when we left the car. Also, windows were locked inside. After I opened the door, I confirmed the windows were locked. We had some misc items in the car and it didn't look like anyone had touched them or had any interests in them.

It appears to be a malfunction of security system or electrical system. Anyone else had similar experience?

you have to be carefull how you carry your key fobs. if you hold the unlock button for a few seconds it will open both front windows.....

LOL, no mistake or malfunction. If you hold your unlock button down for more than three seconds or something like that, both front windows will roll down. It is a feature we have on our car. I guess it is so you can vent the car in the hot summer sun before you get in. Go out and try it and then laugh at yourself! LOL

Hope that took the mystery out of it for you and the lady.

hey homermac, depends on your alarm with some alarms such as DEI stuff you have to purchase separte moduals that allow you to do this with aftermarket alarms, on our 4th gens you have to purchase one for sure to make it work but on the newer max's 5.5 gen i believe its just a wire that needs to be hooked up

homerMac, you can add realys to all your windows ( even sunroof) if you want them to open up. Another cool feature you can use the same realys to close all the windows when you lock your car, even the sunroof.
