searching for the truth

this kid i talked to the other day, i wouldn't call him my friend, told me something i don't really believe. he said that I30 headlights turn on automatically by sensing darkness. is this true? i've never heard of any maxima guys talking about biting this luxo feature, so im not really sure what to believe.

Perhaps on newer models but not on A32's. Can't say I wouldn't mind it though. I just wish they would make ones that turn off when the car is off. (How hard would it really be? I mean c'mon?)

My dad's old I35 had Auto headlights which was pretty cool. Definately not on the 96-99s though, maybe on the 00-01s. My dad used to have a 02. I've also seen a 5th gen max with this too. It's a little annoying tho because everyone tells you that your lights are on after you get out of your car since it turns them off automatically after a while.

My 2000 I30 does it as long as you set the light switch to "AUTO."

Auto lights is good, but I hate how they turn on in the garage for the 15 seconds im in there. It's not healthy to turn on and off the hids for such a short duration. I just leave it on parking lights until its very dark, it keeps my LEDs glowing in the reflector, which looks cool anyways.

I have to agree, it is very annoying to pull into the garage and the lights switch on after only 15 seconds. Thats why I just use auto whenever I know I will be out of pocket for more than an hour. That way, I don't shorten my bulbs life. (I hope this helps anyway.)

I think Walmart or Pepboy or AutoZone has the Auto headlight kits for less than $50....

ive got them on my 00 i30t i dont use them enless i just want my aftermarkets piaas to be on. i dont find it that hard to reach up and turn my headlights on when its getting dark. One ? tho... If they are in the auto setting and you take the key out of the ignition say to to go inside, will your lights automaticly turn off saving the battery from a slow painfull death?

i believe our cars do have some type of battery saver, but when they are set to auto they shut off when the ignition is turned off

You can do an easy mod that will shut off your headlights when the car is not on. Just add a relay that breaks the headlight circuit when the car is off. Your dash switch will function normally when the car is on, but you can leave the switch on all the time and they will automatically go off when the car goes off.

In CA, it's illegal to drive with only parking lights, and a law was recently passed to require headlights on when you can't see more than a certain number of feet or it's raining. I think you should reconsider your "I leave the parking lights on until it's very dark" strategy. It's a danger to other drivers. Headlights are about being seen, not only being able to see.

When the lights are on auto all of the lights are off when it's light out. I like to use the parking lights when Its not dark too. It turns on the tail lights and side markers (and the bulbs in the headlights which dont really do **** in the daytime). I think it probably makes you more visible durring the day which would be safer. Plus, if you turn the lights off instead of using the parking lights you have to turn them on first which defeats the whole purpose (saving the HIDs).

As far as turning on headlights in the rain or dark, I agree with you on this.

Forget auto sensors and try observing the traffic laws about what time of day to turn your lights on and off; i.e., on until 1 hour after dawn, on beginning 1 hour before dusk, and on whenever visibility is hampered by weather conditions.

The auto lights turn the headlights on earlier than the laws call for, so it's not really an issue. And the part about me using my parking lights, i only have them on at dusk, until it is time to turn on the headlights. If i can't see past the next block then its time to turn them on, that's what i consider "very dark".
