IS300 easier to tune and has more potential?!?! Thats a laugh!! A 2005 IS pulls the 1/4 in the same time that a 95 Maxima/ 96 I30 does. Seeing that the IS is 10 newer... thats pretty sad. Also, good luck finding aftermarket support for that thing... what ever does exist will cost you an arm and a leg. The only advantage it has is RWD, but since you really dont seem like the autocrossing type to me, it does not really matter.

Not to mention anything with a Lexus badge is rip off... nuff said.

Eh, good luck with IS. It was one of the cars I drove at various dealers when I bought my I35 a few years ago. It's definitely a better handling vehicle, and the RWD is fun. But 2 things stuck in my mind after that test drive:

1 - Damn this thing feels cramped (inside)
2 - Where'd the engine go? (slow)

If you want something with looks and the Lexus badge - get the IS. But unless you're looking to boost that thing, it doesn't have that much tuning potential. Sure the aftermarket is huge compared to that of the A32 I30, but go to is300.net and clublexus and I think you'll find that even the cars with LOTs of bolt-ons still aren't running that fast.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Why? You just got them rims too. Its lookin good. Also, I believe our cars have plenty of potential, Go AND Show speaking. Unless you're really trying to get serious about racing and basing your life around it and **** then I'd say not so smart of a move. I'd say keep it, but hey that's your choice in the end.

Goodluck with whatever you choose to do.

If you like stick, I say go with Honda S2000, or Prelude. SRT-4 is a pretty fast car too, sounds nice and they're just as easy to hook up compared to a Honda. But the S2000 is known to be the best driveable car in the world. It can even beat Ferraris... literally. Not on straight away, but on the curves it handles even better than any BMW or any Porche. If I don't get an I35, then I'm def getting an S2000 next.

ur telling me that a supra engine has less potential than a vq30de??
and that i can go drifting in a fwd car?
also....remember i AM only 18...so i am gonna go for the sports sedan than a full size luxury sedan...also IMO it looks a lil bit nicer body-line-wise....it doesnt have those ugly side marker things...and the chrome trim all around...

if your not making any payments on your car now, drive it till it falls apart and save up money for a g35, I've only driven the 4dr loaner from the dealer, but that thing flys. Its not as comfortable as my I30, but the engine is definitly more responsive (also louder).
Or how about an rx-8; its small and quick (if you get used to the rotary engine) I think you can get a new one for in the mid $20k

I have a black '96 w/ tan interior, too. It replaced my earlier black/black '96 that was totaled in an accident.

Man, yours really looks sharp. How many miles, and what kind of wheels are those?

Yes I am... do the words 'iron block' mean anything to you... How about 'timing belt'...How about 'lack of aftermarket support'...

hm.... How is an Infiniti I30 more sporty than Luxury...
I agree that the G35 is actually uncomfortable, feels like the seats are too hard/stiff.
I myself would rather have a 2-door if I'm going to think of speeding. But other than that I'd much rather have a luxurious 4 door big body sedan for family/friends purposes.

Do the words '5 speed', 'aluminum block and heads', '3000 lbs curb weight', 'stock internals that can handle 10+ PSI of boost', mean anything to you... or better yet 'limited slip differential', OR '13 lb. BBS rims'...

These are really only found in a more SPORT application.

Come on now... you own a 97. Ever sat in or driven a 97 Acura TL? That car is much more luxurious in appointments, refinement, and quality, not to mention more sound deadening materials stock... However does it have any of the things I listed above... NOPE... Nuff said!

i dont mean that...the chrome trim,to me, is a pain to look at...also the front wheel drive thing...

also...u DO have a 5spd...which is actually very potent...my car on the other hand...is a 4spd Auto...which is a snail on wheels...compared to many other cars out there...MY car is more luxury than it is sporty...sure it may have a potent engine but it CAN be rivaled by the 2jz-gte motor...

and what do u mean it has less aftermarket support...
a lexus is300 has more...
body kit
intake
exhaust
suspension
and lighting possibilities than my year i30..

Since when does the IS300 have a supra engine... the supras used an inline 6, last time I checked the IS300 had a V6 from the same series as my dad's Avalon...

The auto is not that bad... perhaps it is indeed less sporty than the manual, but I am willing to bet that just like the I30/Maxima, about 90% of those ISs are auto and not manual... you would be hard pressed to find one in a 5spd.

The IS does not have the 2jz-gte motor. It has the 2jz-ge motor as it is NOT the turbo version. It in addition to the IS, it appeared in the 94-97 GS 300, 93-98 NA Supra, and the 89-92 Cressida.

I owned an 89 cressida WITH that exact same motor, and I can say with out a doubt that it was a POS compared to my VQ.

Where is your proof of this abundance to support. Remember it has to be for the 2jz that is in the IS, not some other car has it will not work. To honest, I have never seen a whole lot advertised for the IS at all.

You are thinking of the upcoming 2007 IS which will be available in a 2.5 V6 or a 3.5 V6 that comes from the new 05 Avalon.

Don't buy an IS 300. My mom has one, it blows. It's small and slow. The electric wiring sucks too.

ugly *** tail lights??its not really ugly thinking about how they began that trend....and they can actually pull it off...

i was thinking about buying an E-shift anyways....

big whoop so what if its not the turbo model...excuse me for my minor mistake...

the abundance of support??maybe on the fact that it has 2 more exhausts from HKS than the i30 should help....maybe the fact that theres more 400+HP is300's than 300+HP i30's around...and even if you cant find many of those....when was the last time you saw an i30 being driven by someone my age around the street? why are there so many body kits and other things of the matter like hoods and such....if you really wanna combat my theory of an abundance in support...this is the is300 and this is the amazing number of support for the vq30de

now listen i know that you guys arent into the whole looking like a racecar deal...but i am and the support is there so dont tell me there isnt...

oh yes...and have i ever seen an i30 in a race??i really dont think so....

dont get me wrong...i love my i30...and it will always be my fun little daily driver...but i want that IS for the weekends....

Are you ware that the Altezza Euro lights that you are refering to are synonymous with RICE... You wont find that gay **** on any Nissan from the factory...

An auto equipped IS300 runs the 1/4 slower than 4th gen Maxiama/I30...so what have you gained...you traded a great motor for a sh!tty motor all for RWD?!?

100+ HP difference is hardly a small mistake...

2 extra exhausts from HKS is your proof? 1 specific example is not gonna cut it...

Where are you getting this info?!? Out of all my times at the track NOT ONCE have I seen a modified OR stock IS... I have however seen several 3rd, 4th, and 5th gen Maximas that would quite frankly eat a sh!tty IS for breakfast...

I see far more young people in the 4th gen Max/I30 than the IS... Infact, MOST of the ISs I have seen were the gay @ss wagon versions with teh gutless auto tranny... and guess what??... they like the Scion xA and xB are driven by OLD people... not young. Come on now... we ALL know that Toyota has been missing their target market....

Both thes links go to the same place??? And even then what I saw available for the IS looked about like the same amount basic bolts on for the Max (excluding the abundance of ugly @ss rice body kits for the IS).

You are right, we are not... and if you are, then the IS is perfect for you... just like the civic, scions, matrix, and what ever else...All show and NO go...I wont argue that fact that there does appear to be more rice material (ugly @ss hoods, spoilers, lights, and body kits) available for the IS than the Max/I30... And that is most definately a good thing...

[QUOTE=cefiro8701]oh yes...and have i ever seen an i30 in a race??i really dont think so....[QUOTE=cefiro8701]

Umm I own one?!? Plus my best friend owns one as well... I must say that he and I are pretty fuken fast... you gotta be a fast fucc to either of us...Not to mention all the other Maximas out there that I have seen...

I'd keep the I30. It's nice to see a young dude with a fixed up I30. Yours looks great. I bet you are about the only kid with one among the throngs of civics, dsms, mustangs, trucks etc.....

I think if you took a look at MikeI30's turbo'd car, you would change your mind about "potential". heh

a testiment to how much the IS300 wireing sucks. my freind went over a few pretty rough bumps.. and CRACKED his ECU casing and shorting out his car. 1200 for new ECU and a lot more to replace all the Relays and plus shop labor fees. hes about to pay more than the car is worth to fix it!

i am keeping my 30...dont get me wrong...but i dont know...i guess it just appeals to me more...

i mean...im extremely stoked about my i30...like...for instance i just hacked my airbox and quickly rekindled my fire with it....

the point im trying to make is...I want that IS300...and there is a difference in opinions...i mean...

before all this i wanted two cars...both were luxury/sporty....the IS300 and my stepmom's I30....now that i can have both...why not??

i think both cars would be awesome...but if i was to get serious with the speed thing...then i'd probably end up fixing up my IS300 more because of the massive potential it has for high horsepower...i mean...if i really wanted to...(once i DO get it...) i can crank that thing up to over 500....

i really love my i30...i dont want you guys to think im a traitor...because im not...i just want to be with both my cars...like some kind of polygamist....

and i would love to see our cars in GT4...or any videogame for that matter....what exactly makes a car a ricer??because...i see potential in both cars but for some reason i cant seem to grasp the fact that the i30 has more of a reach...

i truly believe that both cars will be awesome and it IS a dream of mine to have them both one day be next to each other in a car show...

2001 Infiniti I30 0-60 8.4 secs....
1996 I30 7.8 secs......16.0 seconds....
2001 Lexus IS300 5spd auto(e-shift) 7.1....15.3 seconds

BOTH THIRD PARTY RESULTS!

and when i asked about the Racing i30's....i meant have you ever seen one in a race...like...a sponsored race...not some street race...i do that all the time myself...

Have you looked at the Soarer... aka the Lexus SC at all? Sportier and better built IMHO. Mom's got an SC that's had no problems, but it seems like the IS down the street is always in the shop, they've got a different shop loaner in the driveway every week...
