Proposed grill mods (courtesy of Photoshop)

I have come to the conclusion that the I30 grill looks way too much like the grill on a Mitsubishi Lancer!

Getting a Cefiro grill might be nice, but I want to see what I can do with the exisiting one first.

Rather than actually doing the mod and then getting feedback, I thought I would do some photo retouching first.

So, here they are, two possible mods of my existing grill.

Please post your choice:

a. Grill #1
b. Grill #2
c. Keep the existing grill.

I think Grill #1 looks best. #2 looks a little to plain for my liking but that's just my opinion.

i'd like the 2nd one more if it were all straight instead of having the middle of the top "poke" into the black area. actually, nevermind (i scrolled up and had another look), the 2nd one is growing on me.
how are you planning on doing this mod?
i thought about doing something like this but my idea was primitive : i was just going to use paint and color my grille a gunmetal color.

I did both of those grilles to my I30. On the same grille of course then i tried to put grille mesh behind it and it looked even worse. I did it with a dremel. I was bored and i already have a cefiro grille so i wanted to try something new. Sorry but i dont have pics with it on my car.

With grille#2, it reminds me of an late 90's Mazda 626. I vote for keep the existing grille.

It is so hard to cut out those plastic bars. they are thick as hell and are actually on an angle where they attach to the chrome surround. It didnt look good at all the i put it on the car. I was bored one day and figured i would try something new.

Couldn't have said it any better. Unless he throws in mesh like this, then #2 will look good.

As for #1 I like it. Looks good. Actually I was planning on doin suttin like number one, but instead of cuttin out the vertical bars, I was gonna paint them Body color. See if you can photoshop the vertical bars in #1 Gold to match your car, well beige.

i did put the grille mesh in and it just didnt fit the look of the car. so i trashed it. IMHO i think the cefiro sports grille looks the best in our cars hands down.

#1 is the best of the two. I'm a fan of the cefiro grill but I do really like #1.

I might also agree if two people with a lot of car knowledge had not misidentified an I30 with a Cefiro grill as a LEXUS!!

Some may disagree, but in a way it does resemble a Lexus grill. Not that there is anything bad about a Lexus grill, other than the fact that it attached to an overbloated Camry.

Painting the bars gold would be a tad too much for me. It would make it look like a pimped-out Lincoln, IMHO.

So, what I am going to do is experiment with Grill #1 by putting easily-removable, black tape on the bars to see how it might look if I were to paint them with a flat black finish. If it looks good, all things considered, then I will paint them.

As an alternative, I will also try laying a black mesh grill over the bars to see how that looks.

If none of the above really work for me, I keep the original look.

Thanks for all the great input.

Well, this is how I plan on doing my grill, not definite, but pretty sure I wanna go with this look. Body match emblem and vertical bars, except for the large middle one.

PS: Thanks for the pic Doc.

the only lexus grille that resembles the Cefiro sports grille is on an LS400. The es300 (camry) does not have a grille like the cefiro grille at all. My moms got one and its 3 or 4 slits of urethane color matched to the car. I like the was the LS grilles look and ill be damned if i hated that my car looked like a lexus

paint doesnt stick very well to that chrome stuff. You may want to sand the bars a little bit before u go at it.

RE: Yet one other possibility: the G35-I30 grill!

I happen to have this gold G35 grill badge lying around, so I thought I'd see what it might look like if I were to keep the vertical grill, ditch the baby Infiniti logo, and slap on the G35 badge.

Voila! Presenting the G35-I30 grill:

Side view

Front view

Or...how about this variation on a theme:

Side view #2

And, finally....the blacked-out bars with the new, G35 logo:

Side view #3

Whaddya think, guys?

Now, before you ask me to try making the vertical bars all gold using Photoshop, let me just say that it would be easier to go ahead and paint them! There are just not enough similar pixels to make it look pretty in Photoshop.

Can you make a Photoshop of the 2nd Pic Front View on I30ds Horizontal grill and put the logo in the middle like you did? Curious on how it would look. Sorta like all the new Infinitis I'd think.

And that is bad???

Why hide what we got? Infinitis RULE, man, and they are "infinitely" better than 95% of other car makes on our roads today, IMHO.

Dollar for dollar, you would be hard-pressed to find a better set of wheels.

It's like trying to hide the fact that your girlfriend looks like Pamela Anderson, Jennifer Anniston, or Cindy Crawford.

Now, do you see any Mercedes owners scraping off their tristar emblem, or Jag owners throwing a bag over their cat hood ornament?

I don't think so.

We're Infiniti owners, and we're darn proud of it!!!

(OK..I'm off the soapbox).

I haven't followed the thread too closely, but if you can get the grill to look like that, you could probably use an I35 trunk emblem as it's adhesive and pretty large.

^^^looks nice. Got that I35 look.

Infiniti should've put the big emblems on the grille in the begining instead of these tiny, incompetent ones. LOL

Nothing against the waterfall grilles though...they still look nice.

Nice!!! You can always cut out them 3 middle bars and put black/silver mesh in there and then the logo on top of that. Pretty much like some of the Max owners do, like an IS type Grill just a lil different.

This emblem is made to fit a G35 grill, and the quickest place to get one would be your local Infiniti dealership. I happened to get this one from an eBay auction.

since the grill only has 4 horizontal bars, there would not be much contact area between the grill and the adhesive on the back of the emblem.
