first try at removing orange reflector
first try at removing orange reflector
well i removed the orange reflector from a set of I30t headlights. used a heat gun instead of doing the cook-it-in-an-oven thing. got glue all over the place, burn up my hands and snap the headlight shut with my fingers still inside them.
but they came out great. all i have to do is put them on the car.................i wonder what appendages i will damage this time? i choose the I30t's because they have the black surrounds, i thought those would look better on a Diamond Graphite car.
i know
as soon as i get done i will post some.

yeah, i've been debating doing this for a while now, just have been too lazy to actually do it, I did it on my alero headlights, which were one piece, took me a while, but itz probably the same doing, i used a hair dryer so it took, For Ever, but as soon as i get some motivation, i'll be clear on all 4 corners.
im prob just gonna get cefiros soon anyways, then hopefully everything int he front will line up, since my accident over the summer, i fixed it all as much as i can, but the right orner leamp doesnt mesh witht he side of the car perfectly, and i need new fogs, damn cars cost alot
The only thing that stops me from removing the orange piece in my headlights is the fact that the bare bulb will be plainly visible there. I just don't like that. If I could get some sort of frosted clear plastic piece to go in its place I might do it.
I've often thought of buying the angel eye lights and stealing the clear plastic piece and halos from them and transplanting them into mine though..

MetaOrbit: If I may make a suggestion. when you take the lense off the headlight, and take out the orange reflector piece, you could use some frosted paint to paint the inside of the headlight lense. you can find frosting paint and similar frosting stuff at hobby and craft shops. That may give you the look you are going for. Just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion. Only problem is that the orange lense is inset into the housing, so I think frosting the portion of the actual headlight lense itself wouldn't look very good. And I'm very picky when it comes to looks (thus my waiting forever to find a stereo dash kit that would fit and look nice).

When you find a replacement that will not destroy the inside housing let me know.
Eh, I've thought about LED bulbs, I've thought about bulbs that look chrome until lit...
...The color isn't my issue. My issue is seeing that bare bulb there. Just looks tacky and unfinished IMO.

as soon as i get done i will post some.I did this a year ago and am happy with it. My bulb shows but it doesnt bother me that much. I would recomend spreading some type of sealent over the crack where you opened it because i had moisture get in everytime i washed my car, but after i put the sealent no more moisture.

looks nice man, I bet it took a while to do. I just bought the angel eyes instead of messing with that. it was a lil' costly but I think worth it. I tried putting pixs of my lights on here but it wouldn't allow me. But anyways man that looks hella good.
I'm going to attempt to open up the corners this weekend using a heat gun.
I had a thought about what to do with the clear plastic area where the orange lens used to be. I may try brushing the area with acetone as that will make it translucent.

be extremely careful, as the heat gun can melt the plastic assembly of the headlamps.
Metaorbit, I recently purchased a set of LEd bulbs from superbrightleds.com for the corners and I must say they don't look half bad. They are clear and small emough where you don't see them in plain view until they turn on. You do however have to purchase the resistors for each bulb so you won't get that annoying rapid blink affect. Its worth looking into.
