Anyone know how to access foglight bulb on I35?

I needed to make sure what type of bulb is used for fog lights on the I35 and decided to take a look today. But I can't figure out how to remove the housing from the bumper...can any I35 owners chime in please?

There are some splash shields underneath the front bumper that you need to remove. If memory serves correctly there are a few plastic "rivets" that you'll need to pop out. Once those have been removed you should be able to pull the splash shield away from the bumper and remove the bulbs from the rear of the foglight housing.

Will this require removing the wheels? And our fog lights are H3 right?

I think the bulbs are H3, don't remember for sure though. Shouldn't have to jack the car up. I was able to do it by laying down and sticking my head under the front of the car.

You dont need to remove the wheels. Just drive up on some ramps or something. The splash guards are just flat black pieces at each corner under the bumper. There are the plastic rivets and I also think there are a couple screws under there too... If I recall correctly.

The bulbs are 35w H3 bulbs. You can put in the 55w H3's but you need to do a little grinding on the bulb base.

Yea but what you can do it actually use a small flat head screw driver to push it in thats what i did. it was nice and tight i didnt even have to put the clips back in

Sigh...never installed an H3 bulb before, sounds so much more complicated than a regular 9005/9006 bulb.

sup n3985! I have changed my fog bulbs about 4 times now and it can be done in less then 15 mins if you have a Jack, screwdriver and flat head.

1) Simple Jack one side up, or slide your head underneath the front of the car, (if you have the ST-R lips, YOU need the jack).
2) Turn your wheel so that you can see behind the front wheel.
3) Unscrew two screws or just take out the push pins with a flat head driver so you can get behind the splash guards.
4) Push the splash guard to the side so you can access the foglights. You have two options now. You can change the bulbs now (skip to step 6) or you can continue to step 5.
5) Unscrew the bolt (screw) that holds the foglights in place and push forward on the foglight housing. The foglight housing should now be hanging in front of the bottom bumper.
6) Take out the old bulbs, insert new bulbs. Turn fog lights on (see if bulb works) put the car back together.

Follow steps 1-6 again for the other side. Your done. I have become a pro at changing foglights that it only takes a matter of minutes. I tried Polargs, Sylvanias, PIAA, Nokias and I know it easy TRUST me. If you are doing this procedure for over and hour, you should not try even attempt to install any other parts on your car by yourself because this is the easiest mod so far to do to on an I35/I30 A33.

The pic is a bit blurry, but you should be able to see what I am talking about. If you look at the square cutout on the bulb base, this is the only difference between the 35w and 55w bulbs (well you know what i mean). In order to fit a 55w bulb you just need to to widen this by about 1mm on each side. Its really easy and will fit just like the 35w bulb.

Even easier than that. If you take out the actual foglight housing and plug the new bulb up, put the bulb in the housing and just take your flat head driver and push down on the base of the bulb ( ) and force it to fit in between the grooves until the circular base of the bulb is flush with the fog light housing. What it does is actually squeezes the plastic groove so, from now on any bulb will fit there properly because, all of the aftermarket bulbs will have to be modified a little unless you modify the bulb housing on the fogs. And if you ever half to return a bulb because of defects, creating a 1mm grove on the bulb circular base will void warranty. I had to return two sylvannia lights.

I am using PIAA H3 Ion Crystal Yellow bulbs. They are bright as hell, but like one member said, they are no where near as bright as the IS300 or GS400-430 bulbs that lexus are using on their cars. If I have time, I will probably try to get a pair of the lexus bulbs on-line and mod them to work.

Do you have a pic of your yellow bulbs on your car? I will like to see the differences between the Hella vs PIAA.

WOW!

I just checked out prices on those Hella Yellow Stars... They are really cheap compared to the PIAA's. I think I spent over $50 when I bought a set.

You have any good pictures of the Yellow Stars Junkie? Do they perform well? (although we have crap fogs in the first place).

One of my PIAA's has burnt out and I was planning on buying some of those yellow glass capsules so i could use some cheaper fog bulbs... But if you like these Ill prolly try them first.

NewLove,
I will get pics tonight if I can. Yeah, they are really cheap. I got them from http://www.rallylights.com/. I have had them in the past when I had my '97 Altima. They are pretty good and are good enough for me.

Lee,
The Lexus cars use a cover over their bulbs to get the most desired yellow appearance.

See you all tomorrow. I'm outta here.

For an H3 bulb, do you put the bulb in the housing and then twist? And is the wire power line? Thanks for the help so far!

No twisting, just put the bulb in place and there is a clip to hold it in. Have you even taken things apart to look at them yet? If you look at it Im sure you could figure it out.

I snuck under my car just now, and only saw one pop-rivet. Where is the other one? The closest other one I saw was a nut in front of the wheel.

Just start pulling things apart. You're really not going to hurt anything under there. Worst case scenario you just pop whatever that didn't need to be removed back in. Like Newlove said, just take a look under there and start playing around and you'll figure it out.

OK, I went under the car today and successfully removed the splash shield. BUT, for the life of me I couldn't get the fog light housing out. I removed two screwes, one near the fog light, which never came out no matter how much I turned, and another one on the bottom at the base of the housing. I couldn't see or feel any other screws, are there any others? Which screw(s) needs to be removed? And is it normal to need to push really hard for the housing to come out? After I got out the one on the bottom, I pushed and nothing happened.

Hmmmmm... Thats wierd.

You should only need to remove the black one in the bottom of the housing. I guess you just need to push a little harder. Mine just about fell out on its own. Make sure you are pushing on the side with the fog bulb and not the corner light. There is a clip (not really a clip) holding in the cormer light side.

BTW, that other screw your were messing with that wouldn't come out... Well that's used for aiming the fogs, so yours are probably pointed really high right now (may want to check/ re-aim your fogs)

That's what I figured and stopped and to my best ability tried to reverse what I did. I guess I'll just re-aim it once I'm done with the bulb swap. Would it be a bad idea to have them aimed as high as the low beams? Because I want to do the fog light re-wire mod and use my fogs sometimes w/o the low beams. Hopefully I can get it done this weekend, then I can post pics of my hyperwhite fogs and cornering lights

So, I just bought a 2000 I30-T. I have had three Maximas (a 96 Auto, a 2000 GXE 5 speed and a 2000 SE 5 speed). Since those cars I have had a Lexus GS400 (note: do not drink and drive 300 hp cars....or any cars for that matter) and then an Acura TSX 6speed. This I30 is a "temporary" A to B car as I am in the mortgage business and wanted to free up some liquid cash. ANYWHO...this being my second day with the car I decided to change the burnt out fog light bulb this evening. After 30 minutes of trying to get that stupid little spring back in place whilst trying to fit my head AND my arm up into the wheel weel, I finally got frustrated and did a google search. And of course I was directed to the best car forum in the world, Maxima.org. I not only got the advice I needed (pull the lamp assembly OUT OF THE BUMPER....MORON!) but I also got a good chuckle from you guys berating yet another noobie. Man, I miss this place....

Im planing on changing my fog light bulbs to yellow this upcoming weekend and I want an advice on what is the easiest way to do it ? I read thru this thread and it seems confusing.

I dont want to bust anything or break anything, so if anyone can give me some useful advice I'd appreciate it.

Also, these fog lights are what we use right ? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...lenotsupported

If the I30 foglight housing is the same as the I35 housing there's a way to change the bulb without removing the foglight housing. My buddy did it today for me..... Ill get him to post a DIY
